I like Nick Johnson. Using PFX to look at his plate approach.

I know its completely reasonable because everyplayer will swing at a really bad pitch atleast a couple times a season
but I love that very bottom green dot, inbetween -2 and -1.
Its funny because fuck the dodgers
The one on Kouzmanoff’s chart was pretty funny. It was in the bottom left corner on that pitch that he swung at vs. Lincecum that hit him in the shin.

So how many of those in 2,1 are strikes on Nate?
/ runs away crying.
Who’s brain did you bring me?
Brain SabeanOranother.
All the pitches in the left-hand graph
Past the 2 on the x-axis. You know how he loves to tee off on those pitches that hit him….
Aaron King is still my homeboy... iffy mechanics and all

Look at the non-swings graph for Johnson
Those are swings for Nate.
I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

So just reverse the Swings/Non-Swings and it’s Aaron Rowand ?
Matt Downs . The Kevin Frandsen of 2010 !
This seems somewhat dubious
If I’m reading these charts right, does that mean that Nick Johnson never ever looked at a pitch down the middle?
Was he never in a 3-0 count, or what?
Give -peace- Ryan Garko a chance.
I want to see Nate’s charts now… for comparison. Not meant to be a demand, just sayin’.
Utter frustration and futility.

For fun, Nate saw 266 pitches beneath (1.63 feet or less) his normalized strike zone. Of the 266 pitches, 69 were sliders. Of the 69 sliders, he swung at 24 and missed completely. Maybe I’ll run some league averages for a contact vs. misses on sliders below a normalized strike zone because I’m not sure if his number is good or bad. I’ve got a feeling it isn’t great.
Food for thought.
Certainly, his green cloud of swings outside the zone seems more diffuse than Johnson’s…
Utter frustration and futility.

Wow, I am so impressed I had to call a university to ask for a word to describe this: disklapine? dissapline? oh Discipline.
Any other Giants fan ever heard of this word in the last two seasons?

Buster Posey singlehandedly brought it into our consciousness.
