Pirates Could Deal Doumit
"While he's not considered a superb defender anywhere on the diamond, his versatility could appeal to teams that need to add a power bat — but aren't entirely sure where. The Giants match that general description: Their catcher (Bengie Molina) is a free agent, their situation at first base is murky (Ryan Garko may be traded) and perhaps their biggest off-season need is a corner outfield bat."

That would be a good bat to have
I like Doumit, even with his weird eyes.

I’d be ok with this if he’s used in a super utility role. I’d like him a lot relieving Lewis/Velez/Bowker in LF vs lefties as well as splitting time with NIck Johnson at 1st and Buster at C. It could kinda free up a roster spot too as they could probably go with Posey/Doumit/Pablo as the only catchers on the 25 man roster but obviously all three of them would be in the lineup a lot of the time.
Thing A
Doumit would be great to have. One of my coworkers is a big Pirates fan, and he loves Doumit. Also, I like saying “Doumit.”
Maybe if we got him on the cheap, it would even out the Alderson trade.
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...
If they used him like the Red Sox used Victor Martinez, I’m all for it. A couple starts a week each at first, catcher, and OF (DH in Victor’s case).

Meh.
For the right price I’ll go along with almost anything.
Very BA driven OBP but at least he does not swing at over half the pitches he sees. I am presuming the thought behind getting him is he was injuried almost all of ’09 and will bounce back.

Sure it can't.
/ Sabean trades Madison And Crawford for him then picks up option for Renteria to be the starting SS in 2011.

He would be a good bat to add
I would guess if he was traded it would be for Lewis…Not sure I want that

I don’t see what eh Priates would realy want Lewis for. I think their OF play time has plenty of worhty canidates availible for a rebuilding team.

I think Lewis > Brandon Moss & Steve Pearce
That allows McCutchen to start in CF, Lewis in LF and Milledge in RF with Garrett Jones playing 1B

I usually shadow the Pirates (always have had soft spot for them) but fell down this August and September. I thought they had a couple more reasonable prospects/suspects OFer ( for 85 loss team) still in the Upper minors. But let us say they have room for Lewis I don’t think that is equal value. Considering there is Olivo (questionable glove work but not inflicted it on as many positions) to be had for around $2MM, or less, and the Giants already have Garko I think that would be a real dumb move.
Garko for Doumit? Garko is cost controlled and without the health issues and posts a better OBP. Yes, I am not too fond of it but I can see it happening.

I’d like him if he split time in RF and backing up at C. He could also step in as the starting C if Posey struggles too much. Also, if we signed Nick Johnson, he wouldn’t be a horrible backup 1B option for when Johnson inevitably goes down with an injury.
The very bad man traded my son...So now I'd like you all to meet my new son, Ryan "Aaron" Garko...Dammit it's just not the same!
