I haven’t checked the numbers, but I feel like Hudson winning is more about reputation than how he actually did.

The last time he was a good second baseman was circa 2005, so yes.

I second the meh. GGs are usually a popularity contest IMO.

If you can get 3:2 on a headline of "Giants Pitcher Assaults General Manager" at some point this year, take it.

Hudson and Victorino both had negative UZRs this year. wheeeeee.

I hear he once took a long, circuitous path to a fly ball just so he could run into the second baseman first.

Rank according fangraph UZR/150-(Bold is negative UZR)

Yadier Molina- CATCHER MOST IMPORTANT POSITION CAN’T CONVERT D INTO NUMBER!!!!ONE
Adrian Gonzalez 2
Orlando Hudson-7
Ryan Zimmerman-1
Jimmy Rollins-5
Shane Victorino-17
Michael Bourn
6
Matt Kemp- 11

Not horrible, UZR isn’t perfect. The only ons that aren’t deserving are Rectum face(not sure who to give it too, Werth is more deserving) and O Dog (Should be Utley). Rollins is a little of a stretch he wasn’t the best this year. I mean Renteria had a phenomenal year!

I can’t really think who I would take over Rollins.

Chase Utley is a really good defender and deserves at least one Gold Glove for it. Can’t the voters occidentally get one right by giving him one for his bat?

Please hit better, Randy Winn.

Jack Wilson was the best this year, but of course he spent half a year in the AL, so he wasn’t going to win an NL GG.

The three best SS by UZR who played the whole year in the NL were Hardy, Theriot and Furcal. Rollins was right after them, so it’s a solid enough choice.

And Victorino winning is hilarious. He’s Benard like in CF. Rowand is better than him defensively.

Eh, I don’t know that we can make statements that definitive. I’d say Pujols is probably better, but it’s just so difficult to measure defense I can’t be sure of that…

Managers and coaches voting for gold glove actually might be worse than writers. They can’t vote for their own players so they wouldn’t see much of the other players in the league. Writers would watch more games while the managers and coaches are focused on their own teams.

I’m generally against giving GG’s to corner outfielders. Yes, Winn’s UZR is really good, but it wouldn’t be anything special if he played CF. Those guys are the better defenders and deserve it. Mike Cameron getting left off is a joke.

La la la
Rollins, the vocal leader of the NL champions and the catalyst of their offense and defense, ranked as average in Ultimate Zone Rating (UZR), with a score of 2.7, and Range Factor (RF), where he scored 3.9, but voters clearly liked his Gold Glove resume and his .990 fielding percentage, the best at his position in the Major Leagues.

Is that so?

Old-school Phillies manager Charlie Manuel might not know a lot about UZR or RF, but he knows good defense when he sees it.

“When Jimmy is right offensively,” Manuel said, “with the way he plays defense, that’s what makes him one of the best players in the game.”

Oh I see.
