The Giants should go after Pudge...
...according to SI.com. This is one rumor I haven't heard before. What do you think? Would it be worth taking from the potential Johnson/Holliday/Bay payroll funds to have insurance on Posey? I'd say no, simply because it would give Bochy a reason to just not play Posey at all.

I just don’t like high-cost solutions to Buster Posey. He’s almost guaranteed to give us better production than Molina with the bat AND with the glove… and he’s CHEAP. It would be nice to save that money.
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.
Rodriguez isn't necessarily high cost
He made $1.5M last year and didn’t exactly play himself into a big raise. He wouldn’t be a bad pickup at that price.

Well, that’s true. To be honest, I kind of made that comment without actually looking at anything. My brain went FORMER ALL-STAR and then my hands went askdafudhdskcjanbkewruc.

Still though, don’t forget who’s managing this team. If we signed Pudge, Bruce Bochy’s brain would do the same thing, except with a lot of “BORKs” thrown in. And no one would be able to talk him out of it. And then we wouldn’t see Posey on the field more than once or twice a month.

Buster busted
We can cross our fingers and go ahead, put Posey in as starting catcher. But —-he’s not ready. Another half-season of triple-A, then call him up…Give Molina a suit of armor, prop him up for another season, if he’s willing and no other team comes up with what Bengie wants….
They’re pen pals!

Needs to work on offense.
I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

.325/.413/.561, OPS .947 in the minors last year. If he hits for 100 points of OPS under that I’ll be pleased. Sarchasm?
Yes.

I see lots of people saying he’s not ready as a simple fact. But I’ve never seen anyone actually bother to make a cogent argument for why this is the case. Please?
Also, Bengie Molina is terrible and I’ll cry if he comes back.

Adopted Giant: the probably soon to be ditched but still awesome Fred Lewis
Well one argument would be that he’s only had around 100 AB above A+ level and so could use some development time in AAA. Another would be that there’s things he needs to work on still based on his time in the majors/AFL (obviously due to scouting rather than the statistics)
I think Posey probably isn’t quite ready to be a good player in the majors and could use a little more development time. He’s probably ready to be a competent player though and should certainly preclude us from spending decent money on another catcher.
Proud parent of Waldis Joaquin!
I would certainly like us to bring in a veteran catcher to either backup Posey or give him a bit more time in AAA. The important thing though is that the veteran catcher comes at a cheap price (~$1M) as we certainly shouldn’t be spending decent money on the position (which obviously means no Molina)
