Just unbelievable that Ronad plays and Fred sits.

I’m so disgusted that I can’t even loathe Botchy anymore. I just sit here, shaking my head and wondering how it’s possible that Neukom is so fucking myopic as to allow these two pathetic jackasses back to do continued damage to this franchise.

Sheer buffoonery it is.

they’re on their way to two of their flattest performances in years in probably this season’s biggest games for them… at what point is it ok to point out that Tedford teams just seem to be a little bit mentally soft?

baseball jokes aside, though, come on. If I were a Cal fan I’d be pissed— there’s no excuse for coming out as flat as they have in back to back weeks. It’s clear that they’re talented, but they just seem to crack at the first sign of pressure, every time big things are expected of them.

Who, of the potential free agents, should be re-signed this winter?

Consider one vote each cast for Uribe, Penny, and Howry (all of whom, I believe, have indicated clear willingness to re-up, or at least consider it strongly).

So far as I can find, the complete list of possibles is this (asterisk * means has an option attached):

Freddy Sanchez *
Juan Uribe
Rich Aurelia
Benji Molina
Dave Roberts
Randy Winn

You could look it up . . . .

Of relievers with at least 50 IP, he is—depending on exactly what ranking one uses—in about the top two dozen for all of MLB (top dizen or close in the NL) by average performance. (Curiously, the two guys just above him are Affeldt and Wilson.)

He’s given up 5 HR in 50 H, which is a little the norm of 1 in 9 (but only 50 H in 63.2 IP, which is well below norm).

Professional baseball analyst since 1980.

by owlcroft on Oct 3, 2009 6:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Is hits/HR a steady ratio across most pitchers? I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that cited by anyone.

by speckops on Oct 3, 2009 6:47 PM PDT up reply actions

No.

It’s a normative guideline; Krukow cites it all the time (using 1-in-10, not 1-in-9, as the norm). It’s sort of like those one-hit-an-inning, or 15 pitches an inning, or 2 strikes for every ball sorts of things. A pitcher showing any of those is held to be doing “about normal” for the datum in question.

Professional baseball analyst since 1980.

Strange. Don’t know if I’ve ever heard Kruk mention it. Thanks for the info.

I think he’s ranked as the 3rd best QB prospect for 2010.

Looked like #1 to me

though I didn’t get to see a lot of college this year so far. He looked like Tom Brady on their final scoring drive, and his O line sucks pretty bad.

It might come to that, since St. Louis is definitely taking Bradford. But if Carolina keeps plummeting, the Niners could get McCoy.

Yeah, back in college I used to live near Clement, but generally when the craving strikes it’s actually for that cheap-tasting cardboard box stuff.*

i guess it’s a contract issue or something, but anytime the giants have been on nbc bay area it has not been shown on mlb extra innings. but usually the other teams feed will be available, but it’s not tonight for some reason. it really sucked when the giants played the a’s and it was on nbc bay area because it was both teams broadcast. one of those games somebody had a link to it streaming online and i was able to watch.

Long ago they came west over the mountains, and I have rooted for them years uncounted; and together through many ages of this world we have fought the long defeat.

Bochy can’t count that high, so he’ll never know for sure.

Moorad fires the GM, but gives the manager an extension. That kind of tells the new GM he’s not going to have much power.

No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you

I want to be at the Meadowlands for these Springsteen shows.

Me too.

I still can’t believe they played Darkness in its entirety.

His name's Clayton, not Danny.

I have a bootleg of a show where he did Born to Run and Darkness in the same show.

posey's starting to get his swing back

too bad it’s the end of the season tomorrow

by NateEveryday on Oct 3, 2009 8:28 PM PDT reply actions

Matt & Posey were definitely not in synch tonight

and we both cringed when Posey flinched like a little league catcher on a foul ball. But it REALLY sucks when we make a guy like LeBlanc look like the second coming of Cy Young!

Oh a happier note, we watched the last 3-or-4 innings of the Twins game and Joe Nathan looked sharp getting the save. It’s great to see a former Giant still in this thing :)

On to tomorrow’s game… 1:05… be there… it’s a long time to spring training!
