McCovey Awards IV
It's that time again! No, not to give your cat a flea bath (although it couldn't hurt to check). It's the annual Willie Lee McCovey Awards! Started by Salemicus back in the year Aught Six, it's the time where we recognize the wonderful people in our community and pat them on the backs. Maybe even a "man hug" if you're in the moment. Oh heck, why not, go in for a full on embrace. OK, got that out of your system? Cool. Let's do this thing.
The categories are:
Outstanding Newcomer
A n00b who didn't act like a n00b. This person appeared out of nowhere and fit right in with the rest of this gang of misfits and lovable scamps. The cutoff date for new people would be between now and whenever the last award was given out.
Most Informative Poster
If you needed some prime info on a player or an explanation for some obscure statistic, he or she always had the answer.
Most Amusing Poster
Whenever you see one of this poster's comments, your monitor gets drenched with [beverage] from laughing uncontrollably, and everyone around you stares at you thinking you're insane.
Most Spirited Poster
Think of this as our version of the Willie Mac awards. This person exemplifies what the ideal McC poster is. Helpful, team player, all-around good guy, y'know, intangibles. Time to give them some props.
Best Image (Gameday thread)
This award is for an image that is mainly used for GDTs. For example, the Ks or player specific images. It can be something that was Photoshopped, a funny photo, or just something really cool that stuck with you. The McImages directory has a bunch of these.
Best Image (non-Gameday thread)
Any other image that's been posted.
Best Fanpost
Due to the enormous number of Fanposts we create, this category has three winners. This award is for the fanposts that made you think, challenged your opinions, or just gave you that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Be sure to take a trip down memory lane and check out some of the older Fanposts, so those don't get neglected.
Alrighty, folks. Make your nominations. Once there are at least four for each one, I'll begin making Fanposts for the voting.
Here are the winners from previous years (Edit: Previous winners are not eligible for that award):
2008
2007
2006
This FanPost is reader-generated, and it does not necessarily reflect the views of McCovey Chronicles. If the author uses filler to achieve the minimum word requirement, a moderator may edit the FanPost for his or her own amusement.

"The part of the roster where most of the money is spent, though, is on free agents and guys acquired through trade — guys Sabean did play a big role in acquiring. And they are not good. When you get 2/5 of a pitching rotation for free, you would think you could do better with $76 million than to field the league’s worst offense."

She’s also the Honorary FRED LEWIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM Award Winner, hands down.
Y’know, it’s funny how reputations are established. Everyone knows my fascination with Mr. Kim Batiste – 60 total mentions from me. And yet, while I’ve mentioned Fred Lewis far more often (148) – almost as many as jponry (195)* – my enraged defense of Lewis never seems to be noticed nearly as much as my fascination with Batiste, because jponry’s already got the market cornered.
- - all these numbers are base on the players’ full names, so are incomplete. I’ve also mentioned “Frederick” ten times, for example.

Maybe we can help you get gimmicks
rotorueter: from now on, you can be wracked with regret that the Giants traded Darin Blood, and convinced he could’ve been better than Tim Lincecum if only he’d stayed in the organization instead of being traded for Joe Carter.
oldjacket has the Great Depression thing, but that lacks a certain sexiness. Instead, you can convert to the Druze religion and attempt to convert the rest of us at any opportunity.
Actually, if I recall correctly the Druze don’t accept converts, but that’s aside point. If you’re not comfortable with the Druze, Cao Dai is another possibility. They recognize Victor Hugo as a saint!

If I might make a suggestion
There seems to be two types of fanposts that are nominated. Ones that were thought-provoking or eloquent or funny or interesting or all of the above, and ones that, for whatever reason, generated epic threads.
Maybe we should divide those into 2 different categories. One for best fanpost and one for best thread. ???

wow, i actually feel special… but come on guys, as someone in the east coast time zone now, i always post early. But for real, and this is kinda serious, this forum has helped me in TONS of ways, i can come here and talk nonsense instead of doing it to my friends who could give a crap, like i can come here and talk baseball, but i can’t with my friends here since they hate it. Plus when i got nothing to do in class or at my apartment it’s awesome to come on here and have a chat/argument whatever you wanna call it with the people here, i love it here, thanks guys

Proposition
I was just thinking about the Fanpost category last night and thought of something: what if we had three Fanpost categories of Heart, Head, and Funny Bone? One for Fanposts that are particularly moving or touching, one for informative and thought-provoking ones, and one for wacky and crazy ones. That way we can cover the different kind of Fanposts without some arbitrary “top 3” list.
