Using quote marks doesn’t actually do anything on SBN search engine – plus marks do the equivalent. So that’s probably every time all four words have shown up in the same comment/whatever.

Yeah, it can't be right
google search:
“suck it russell martin” site:www.mccoveychronicles.com
Results 1 – 10 of about 1,930 from www.mccoveychronicles.com for “suck it russell martin”. (0.28 seconds)
Admittedly, it seems that Stuttering John Tamargo has “Suck It Russell Martin” in his signature, so that would inflate the totals. But those 1930 results are pages, not individual comments — and surely some threads have had more than one instance of “Suck It Russell Martin.” So it seems way too low to me. But I’m at a loss as to why the SBN search would be undercounting.

Still trying to get into Embryonic. What’s your favorite album?
I don't know anything about minor league players, so I adopted the Coke Bottle, and it's totally grown on me.
'The longer I do this the smarter I get' --Brian Sabean
it’s changed a lot this week as I’ve made my way through the discog a few times, but I’m going with a top five of The Soft Bulletin, Transmissions from the Satellite Heart, Hit to Death in the Future Head, Embyronic and Yoshimi.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

Did you just start listening to them post Treasure Island? Soft Bulletin is great

Did they do a lot of Embryonic stuff at the show? I haven’t seen them for a few years.

They did Convinced of the Hex and Silver Trembling Hands off of it. I would have liked to see a few more songs, but those are two of my favorites. They actually did more Mystics material than I would have expected (The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song and The W.A.N.D. – ok, Pompeii am Gotterdammerung – awesome, Vein of Stars – WTF??)
It was a pretty balanced setlist, I think (when you consider that Wayne probably can’t do a lot of the really early stuff anymore.)
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

Soft Bulletin is on my personal list of 10 (or so) greatest albums ever. Well, I don’t actually have such a list, but if I did, Soft Bulletin would be on it.

“Waiting For Superman” (The Remix version, last song on the album) is one of my all-time favorite songs.
"Those that drink the Kool-Aid, please leave the room."
I love both...
…and I love how the remix serves as a reprise at the end of the album. The song works so perfectly as both centerpiece and coda.

I kinda hate the US tracklisting, but I’m not a big fan of remixes. I much prefer the special edition tracklisting (UK + spiderbite song and buggin’ at the end). It’s the one the band apparently intended, anyway!

I have a soft spot for the first EP, in particular “My Own Planet”. I first saw them live back around that time (at the I-Beam, if memory can be trusted).
I still find it pretty amazing that the same group recorded both “My Own Planet” and “Waiting for Superman”, which are about as different in outlook as they are musically.

Maybe the Berkeley Square? We saw them there cr 85. I rememner the double-neck SG (ala Page). Mark was still in the band I think.
You can't solve your problems with the same level of thinking that created the problems - Albert Einstein to Brian Sabean
It was probably more like 86/87. I don’t think Mark was there and I’m pretty sure they played “Hear It Is” material like “With You”.

No love for Zaireeka?
I went to see one of their boombox performances, back in the day. Mighty strange it was, too.
My top two Flaming Lips records match yours, I think, you.
In related news, IIRC at least two ‘Nick Cave’ s are mine
Zaireeka is bad ass. I wish I had gotten to see a boombox performance. It’s definitely worth taking the time to set up four sound systems to experience it properly. I also found it fun setting them all up in my friend’s living room and trying to get them all synched at the beginning of each song.
Have you ever listened to Yoshimi or Soft Bulletin in surround sound? I had the pleasure of hearing a few songs from Yoshimi on a really nice 5.1 setup in a recording studio. It’s actually kind of creepy… no matter which way you turn your head, there’s always some weird sound coming from right behind you.
Osiris, Lord of the Dead, and relief pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.
FREDEMPTION 2009
I’m getting into Embryonic now… it took a few listens. You can hear the influence of Christmas On Mars on that album, as horror-movie elements definitely creep into the songs. I like that, personally. Overall, I don’t think it’s nearly as good as what I consider their “big three” (Clouds Taste Metallic, Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi), which are the only three with Steve Drozd on drums and Dave Fridmann producing. I think Embryonic is considerably better than At War With the Mystics, which I didn’t like so much.
Also, Wayne Coyne never mentioned on this site? That can’t be, I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned him on one of the music threads. I do not believe the McC search function.
Osiris, Lord of the Dead, and relief pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.
FREDEMPTION 2009
Well, the words Wayne+Coyne had never been mentioned on this site before.
A TRAVESTY.

I took a long time before I listened to Mystics because I thought it was going to suck and it’s got a lot of mediocre songs on it, but it also has some fantastic ones (My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion, Mr. Ambulance Driver, The W.A.N.D., Goin’ On and I like the Yeah Yeah Yeah Song, tbh.)
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
omg
I forgot Pompeii Am Gotterdammerung and that’s like the best song on the whole album.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
I really like My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion and Pompeii, but those are the only two, really. The WAND is alright, and I kind of like Fanatical, but the rest are pretty much meh. The YYY song would be much better without that talk box (or at least mix it lower for Pete’s sake), and the “uh-huh uh-huh” in Goin’ On kind of bugs me, though I do like the verses.
Osiris, Lord of the Dead, and relief pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.
FREDEMPTION 2009
I think Wayne’s vocals are really, really good on YYY, for some reason. And The WAND is just badass, imo. But I can get not digging it. It’s probably my least favorite “modern-era” Lips album, anyway (I like it more than Hear it Is and Telepathic Surgery, but nothing else.)
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

I like YYY live, i think it’s always done really well and has a lot of energy.

Edward Sharpe impressed the hell out of me, I downloaded their album but I haven’t gotten around to listening yet because lol Wayne Coyne.
I actually thought every band I saw was great except Spiral Stairs who were disappointingly meh. And Grizzly Bear are probably better in a more intimate setting (though they were still good at Treasure Island). But everything else was awesome (I only got to see a bit of the Walkmen because I was exhausted and needed to sit down at that point and I missed YLT so I could be near the stage for the Lips.)
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
"AT LAST I AM A PARENTS." - Buster
Ya i was super pissed
that i had to miss YLT but pushing through that crowd got impossible.
The smiley girl from Edward Sharpe sounds just as good on the album and it’s actually pretty solid albeit simple.
I’ll agree that the spiral stairs were out of place but i was pretty close for Grizzly bear and I thought they killed it. Beirut and Decemberists really didn’t do anything for me, especially since the Decemberists stuck to that awful hazards of love. Also hiding the original female member and taking away her vocals sucks. But ya, an overwhelmingly good festival.

I thought Grizzly Bear were good, I just thought they were even better when I saw them at The Fillmore back in June.
I actually enjoyed The Decemberists even though I’m not a big fan of The Hazards of Love. The little video thing they had going in the background was pointless though, they should have done the same thing they did for the earlier bands on that stage.
Nothing is as epic as the Wayne’s mouth-cam though.

And I tweet (more often than I blarg).
Having spent many many years on an atheist/agnostic forum I have a hell of a time correctly spelling mormon and baptist; which there, more often than not were spelled moron and batpiss. To this day I have to be very very careful with those two words.
I’m laughing at that second one (no offense to anybody).
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
And I tweet (more often than I blarg).
I was also being flip. I considered not making the comment because it’s playing rather unfairly on the spellings of Mormon / Moron, and that’s walking a very fine line between making a harmless joke and implying that the two have something to do with each other. Which they don’t. Absolutely and undeniably.
But really it was just a spelling joke. Fueled by my powerful hatred for Twilight.

"The part of the roster where most of the money is spent, though, is on free agents and guys acquired through trade — guys Sabean did play a big role in acquiring. And they are not good. When you get 2/5 of a pitching rotation for free, you would think you could do better with $76 million than to field the league’s worst offense."
