Rosterbation(sorry) cuz im bored, *Abreu/DeRosa edition!

Sorry guys... I know this can get old, but im bored right now waiting for Angels Yankees.

Dont normally post things like this, but I think this lineup is alright. It would require Sabean to not resign F Sanchez, which makes it automatically not happenning buuut....

C Posey

1B Sandoval

2B Velez

SS Renteria

3B DeRosa

LF Bowker

CF Rowand

RF Abreu

C Whiteside

IF Uribe

1B Ishikawa

OF Schierholtz

OF Torres

SP Lincecum

SP Cain

SP Zito

SP Sanchez

SP Joey Martinez

CL Wilson

SU Affeldt

RP Romo

RP Miller

RP Runzler

RP Medders

RP Joaquin

ALSO.. not saying I want DeRosa just something Im throwing out there.

1. Velez

2. Abreu

3. Sandoval

4. DeRosa

5. Bowker

6. Posey

7. Rowand

8. Renteria

I really dont hate it to be honest.

So if we resign Uribe for something like 4.00 mil, Torres for 1, Tim makes 10 mill in arb, Dirty get 2.00 and Wilson gets 4.00.. plus DeRosa gets 7.00, and Abreu gets 9.00 that puts our payroll at..... 89.95

Also dont know where the hell Fred is, but I dont know what Sabean sees his role as on this team so I left him off. Replace him with Torres if u wish.. we'd actually save $600,000.

"Buy High-Sell Low"--The Brian Sabean Method Of Trading

I enjoyed zombieland a lot more than i enjoy thinking about a lineup with Velez hitting leadoff and 35 year old version of Mark DeRosa hitting 4th.

I haven't, but I'm hoping to see Wild Things this weekend.

Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

I liked it, kinda dark but good.

it was hilarious to me when the Wild One who was voiced by Tony Soprano went after the kid. I was half expecting Paulie Walnuts to step out from behind a tree and blow the kid away.

I might have said it before, but “It might get loud” about Edge, Jimmy Page & Jack White kept me entertained.

Velez 2B? Please no.

by Missing Barry on Oct 22, 2009 6:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey I agree.

Im not that big on Velez at all. But sadly I think the Giants are.

I would really like Chone Figgins depending on the price. But im afraid that Sabean’s view on him is something like “Hey why do we need a player like figgins when we have Velez? Same player! vroom.”

by kvdp12 on Oct 22, 2009 6:37 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

ahh

see, the post is kinda a mix of “not gonna happen (abreu)” and “realism (velez)”

by sfoakbay on Oct 22, 2009 9:29 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Do you really think Abreu is that unrealistic?

Im not asking that to disagree with you. Im really asking cuz I really wanna know what your opinion is.

I mean “not gonna happen” is like saying were trading for Hanley Ramirez. While, I can really see Sabean making a run for Abreu if he goes to FA. Veteran.

by kvdp12 on Oct 23, 2009 3:29 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

well, when i said not gonna happen

i kinda meant it shouldn’t happen, as it wouldn’t be that good of a move for the giants, and i don’t believe sabean would pursue an abreu type player (high OBP)

Can we please at least wait for some sort of rumors or like the world series to end or maybe even when Winter Meetings happen before more of these threads come up?

That offense looks almost equally bad as last years. I see no Uggla, no HanRam, no Holliday, no Bay, not even Dye. At least the other rosterbation posts are fun.

The very bad man traded my son...So now I'd like you all to meet my new son, Ryan "Aaron" Garko...Dammit it's just not the same!

I would just like to stop these threads for the simple fact that I think there are a bunch of other threads up with interesting conversations. More posts moves them off the front page and effectively ends those good convo’s…

Maybe get Nady around June, if he’s healthy.

Done.

Matt Cain: throwing complete game shutouts since 06'. No big deal.

I can see Johnson

but I cant see them having schnieder/whiteside in there and them trying to claim to the vast majority of fans the -molina and +johnson has upgraded the offense to where itll make a difference.

I think theyll do more to the offense then that, (not holliday/ bay more) because they should, and because they need to for the sack of not having an angry riot / hit on ticket sales.

I already have nightmares about that infield defense

A double play combination of Velez/ Renteria? We’ll have a statue playing SS and a man with an iron mitt playing 2b. And Sandoval never looked to sharp at 1st base.

In regards to getting Abreu, I have mixed feelings. While he represents a HUGE improvement in the Giant’s weakest department (OBP) he is a mid 30’s outfielder who is on a slow decline (sounds like a typical Sabean signing) and has lost most of his power.

All that being said I think Abreu’s ability to not swing at every pitch that leaves the pitcher’s hand is very desirable and makes him a worthwhile signing option, but if we do sign him he should play left, not right. Abreu can’t cover ATT’s rightfield

plus

he’s not gonna get TEH RIBBIEZ, unless he finds a way to drive himself on 90 times

DINGERZ

God, wouldn’t that be weird/incredibly awesome if we signed Abreu and he went on a tear and broke the single-season HR record? Twice in a decade for the same team? Ah, who am I kidding, I lived through the Bonds era, they’d just IBB him every time after he hit 50.

by quincy0191 on Oct 22, 2009 11:40 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Mark DeRosa=DNW. Very, very much so. He’s a glorified utility player who’s 35, his career OPS is .767 (high of .857 in ‘08), that’d put Pablo at first, reducing his value quite a bit, and he’s fairly high-profile for reasons I can’t understand, so he might want some dosh.

Abreu I’d also stay away from; I love his bat and hate his defense (he’s really a DH, like half the goddamned hitters in this offseason), but the thing that scares me is that he keeps getting older and keeps having solid to good seasons and keeps getting resigned. One of these years he’s going to get a good deal, go totally cold, and cost some team a bunch of money. And damn it all if I don’t think that outcome fits the Giants perfectly. Aging player+good last year+us close to contention=Fat contract from the Giants and a bad year for Abreu.

I did like the lack of F. Sanchez, though. If only Sabean could figure out that it is possible to construct a 2010 Giants that includes only one Sanchez….wait, no, then he’d just trade J. and sign F.

by quincy0191 on Oct 22, 2009 11:48 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah.. again this isnt my wish list or anything lol

Im not saying I hope for DeRosa/Abreu. This is just me looking at our needs (power and position wise), looking at FAs, and looking at budget and trying to make a ‘could be’ roster.

But DeRosa definitely doesnt make my 2010 Giants dream team :)

by kvdp12 on Oct 23, 2009 3:33 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

So you want to replace .271/.328/.405 (our 1B production, which is more likely to improve with the players we have) With .250/.319/.433 (DeRosa’s number, more likely to decline than go up)?

I R 5

Why sign DeRosa to play 3rd

and move Panda accross the diamond when you could just sign Johnson to play 1B?

by Cody_ransom on Oct 23, 2009 12:09 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

A couple reasons.

If the Giants were to a Corner OF who doesnt have much power, then the corner IF they SHOULD be going after should have some power.

Johnson and Abreu are two lefties, who get on base, but dont hit for alot of power anymore. 1 could be a real nice add for this team. But I dont like both being added.

If they get Johnson then id like to see them go for a Corner OF with power, which consists of Jason Bay, Matt Holliday, Jermaine Dye, Vlad Guerrero, or DeRosa in free agency.

Bay and Holliday will be pricey. Vlad is a DH, and I see DeRosa as being almost equal to Dye, while being more versatile and cheaper.

So that is Johnson at 1B and DeRosa in LF for you then?

Given Derosa age, that several team could either give hima starting job at third or elite teams could use him as an expectional bench guy ( this part applies to Uribe as well) I want no part of him. I expect him to comand a multi year contract probable abouve $6MM each.

That was not the preview button. Ignore above.

Given DeRosa age and that several team could either give him a starting job at third or elite teams could use him as an exceptional bench guy (this dilemma applies to Uribe as well but I think to a lesser extent) I want little to do with DeRosa. I expect DeRosa to command a multiyear contract probable around $6MM each. The close we get to giving out a $10MM/year contract the more I have to ask why not make run at Holiday or Figgens?

Who’s brain did you bring me?
