Should I feel bad?

When trying to decide whom to root for this weekend between the Rockies and Dodgers and furthermore into the playoffs, I find myself rooting for some kind of natural disaster that doesn't hurt any spectators or any players/coaches (save perhaps Tommy Lasorda). Perhaps I can root for swarms of bees. Are there any bees in St Louis? Can I root for the cockroaches in Philly to overtake the field?

God, I pretty much hate all of these NL teams and watching more Boston-NY AL crap bores me as well. Can I root for bees and cockroaches to attack Bud Selig?

lol, no, I don’t have an ex-husband. I guess it’s not THAT personal and vindictive, it’s just that my saddest moments as a Giants fan this year involve the Rockies.

I feel they stole our wildcard from us. I don’t respect them as a team. Their stadium with its’ high altitude is a joke. I respect no-hitters and shut-outs way more than homeruns. I have an irrational hatred for purple mascots that try and distract our pitchers. Their uniforms are ugly. They suck. I want them to lose so they know what it feels like to be us.

I realize many of these are irrational and silly.

not at all silly

I owe a lot to the city of Denver, and I love Coors Field, but the Rockies can still DIAF as far as I’m concerned. For all of the reasons you listed, and more.

THIS

I hate the Rockies this year, I was pretty much indifferent to them before, but I feel they spoiled our playoff chances the most. I know I should be looking at the Giants for their own failure, but I need to put the blame on someone other than them right now.

I will be watching the playoffs and rooting for the Rockies and Dodgers to be eliminated.

To blame another team for the Giants not being playoff bound

is taking responsibility away from the Giants themselves.
We failed , they didn’t. Sorry , but them’s the facts.

That the Rockies played phenomenal ball since hurling Hurdle to the curble is not something to beat them over the head with , ALL teams play for the same objective – some simply play better than others , and succeed at arriving at the common goal while others don’t.

Of course there are those vagaries known as Stinker and the Fogroom , but why beat a dead dinosaur? If I was idiotically and irrationally sentimental I’d be rooting for a second collapse on baseball’s biggest stage for them that cheated on so many levels and insensitively took what’s rightfully ours , heh heh. Feel freely.

I will not recognize Los Angeles as anything other than the epicenter of plague. Brad Penny has been successfully disinfected in my eyes.

Oh hey , St. Louis. Well , there’s your NL team you can guiltlessly back , unless you’re sickened by WINZ bias in the CY voting and damn the entire team for that.

I can not bear to see Shane Victorino succeed.

C’mon , what’s wrong with backing the Yankees? Shouldn’t spending billions more than strapped teams have its benefits? And engineering a stadium to promote home runs then making it impossible for the common man to afford to be there to witness them?

But here’s the stone clincher for backing the Yankees – they’re Boston’s rivals. Those damned cheaters…Selig should just award both previous Boston championships to the opponents which were…um…oh no , not again…where’s th’parity?

Having completely forgotten that the AL had a third division I have switched my prodigious powers of jinxitude to the support of the Tigers – because if there’s a town that needs something to rally around it’s Detroit.

Post – Giants ambivalence is somewhat of a relief , frankly. If I can afford a television I’ll watch baseball. Maybe you’ll do the same?

Ya know...ignorance really IS bliss.

I still hate STL from the Oquendo days.

And the Rockies have annoyed me since 1993, this year is only the latest in their long history of being a goddamn nuisance.

Go Twins or Tigers.

Please hit better, Randy Winn.

by oldjacket on Oct 2, 2009 4:20 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

As soon as I decided I really want to support the Tigers, for their history and the predicament of Detroit and I do believe they have orange in their colors, they started to lose.

But I do think I’ll be AL Central either way. I do like the Twins. Little Big League!

I agree that hating the rockies for winning a slot that we failed to win is lame.

That is why I hate the rockies on separate grounds. Namely, their horrible sportsmanship (well nigh cheating) of their dipshit mascot dancing in the pitcher’s field of vision behind home plate… but mysteriously, only when the opponent is pitching; games with the speed gun (yes, the visiting pitcher should ignore that stuff and be made of sterner stuff, but that doesn’t excuse the rockies’ organizational crappy intent); and what I believe is the disparate humidification of the balls that visitors get and the home team gets.

And the religious-based sanctimony of a decent sized chunk of their fans. Puke.

I still feel intense rage, the likes of only JCB might know, at the way they laid down the entire ‘93 season to the Braves. Realy if you can’t beat a divsion rival once just why shouldn’t your franchise be made a AAA team?

As a passionate Giants fan..........

I will be rooting for the Rox in the postseason. My philosophy is that I root for any team in the NL West not named the Dodgers because we have to represent. There’s no reason for me to hate the Rox other than the fact that they were better than us this season.

What about the humidor shenanigans? Or sending their crappy mascot down to try and influence the game? That said, I agree with Vic – the Giants’ giant failures are solely their own.

Personally, though, I don’t have anything against most of the teams in the playoffs. Other than the Dodgers, of course. And then the Yankees. Well…and the Angels. The rest are pretty low on my hate-o-meter.

Nah. Not worth it. I will under no circumstances root for the Dodgers; as a religious person I abhor evil in every form. The Yankees bore me. The RedSox and Cardinals are well-run teams with passionate fans – what’s not to like about that? I just wish we were in that same category.

"Can't Stand" Index

First, I’ll watch all 3 in San Diego this weekend and hope we sweep. Second, I’m a diehard Giants fan and don’t really follow anyone else except for the A’s because they’re local. Third, although MLB is my favorite sport, I can’t stand the style of ball they play in the AL… the DH just isn’t my thing… it changes the strategy too much and eliminates the occasional thrill like Carpenter’s 6 RBI day.

But… I have to root for someone during the playoffs, so I’ll revert to my personal “Can’t Stand Index” which is led by the Dodgers with the Yankees a very close second… then comes Boston followed by Colorado (note – Colorado’s spot rotates year-by-year based on which team knocks us silly during the regular season)… 5th on this list is the AL in general (except for the A’s… see earlier comments).

Given this, I’m hoping the Cardinals (because Puljos had a Bonds-like year) take the Twins (my AL favorite because of Joe Nathan) in the World Series. And if the Series ends up with the Dodgers vs. Yanks or Boston… I’ll watch football.

I hate victorino but otherwise don't hate the Phillies.

I hate the dodgers and rockies, and dislike the Cardinals. I dislike the Phillies less than I dislike the Cardinals, so they’re my team for the postseason.

And if, in their travels, the dodgers or rockies encounter a flesh-eating bacteria that persists in their locker rooms for a couple of years, well, nature is an awesome force.
