Dream a little dream...what if the Giants made a bid for Pujols??
Hey...we paid more for Barry Zito, remember? Thoughts, comments? Discuss the possibilities....

Uh, he’s never going to hit the FA market.

Never say never. He’s given more than a few hints that he’s unhappy with the management’s refusal to go all in Yankees/Red Sox style. And plus, I don’t even want to think about what kind of numbers he could command if he gets out there.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
Sure, it's a long shot, but...
1) We need a legit power hitter and a solid first baseman
2) The Cards got swept by the Dodgers in the Playoffs
3) We have an improving team that can contend with the Dodgers next season and beyond, with arguably the best pitching rotation in all of baseball
4) Sabes is not afraid to spend big money
5) The Yankees already have Texiera at 1B
6) Matt Holliday may be gone from St. Louis next year, hence the loss in their offensive protection for Albert
Another failure from St. Louis to not advance further in the post season in 2010, and Albert may be wanting a change of venue sooner than you think, in my humble opinion.

He still has a year left on his contract for 2010 and a club option for 2011.
This won’t even be a conversation until the offseason of 11-12.
It’s a long dream.
Utter frustration and futility.

Can't we do better
than bringing Luis Pujols back?
Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti. "I treat Timmy differently from most pitchers: I leave him alone."
Nobody puts Bengie in a corner!
Pujols ain’t coming. Is this how we’re going to spend our offseason? Talking about unrealistic scenarios? Maybe we can involve some other teams and also get Chase Utley, Hanley Ramirez and Joe Mauer in the same deal.
No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you
Do you think we’d have to give up much to get those guys?

At least Sadowski. But that wouldn’t be as much as the package the Padres should take for Adrian Gonzalez*: Andres Torres or Fred Lewis, Juan Uribe, and Jonathan Sanchez.

Yes, lets trade a player who isn’t even under contract. Brilliant!

Sadowski for one of them or for all three? I might consider it for all three but certainly not just one of them.
And i’m glad you said or otherwise that’d be a terrible deal for us!

Not happening. But hypothetically, if both became available at the same time (which they won’t be I know) but who would you rather have? Pujols or Joe Mauer?
I’m pretty sure if Pujols became available the Red Sox would offer up half of their minor leagues to get him to combat the Yankees getting Tex.
They’d be back to back years, coming right after Texiera and Arod. Following the bouncing ball up those inflationary stairs!

The Giants don't go after free agents like that
they go after the Zitos, Rowands, Renterias and Molinas of the world.
