OT: The rainy day thread

It is just pouring here in the Bay Area. I've already heard stories of blackouts, floods and accidents. How's it looking for you guys out there? I'm in South San Francisco and it's raining really hard but not a lot of problems yet.

I started this thread because I'm going to be stuck at work until 8PM tonight because of a deadline. I want to live through you people! What do you guys do on a rainy day or what would you do? Or anything else you want to talk about. Honestly, I wish I was just at home reading.

I live in Sacramento

and it’s also pooring down rain. Also the winds have reached up to 50 MPH today already.

On a rainy day I like to watch a movie or read a book. If this was the weekend then I would have the perfect excuse to watch football.

I’m in San Mateo and it’s coming down real hard with gusty winds. If I didn’t have work and studying to do, I’d probably run out to Best Buy and pick up Uncharted 2 for PS3. I loved the first game, and the reviews for this one have been very, very positive.

It was pretty terrible when I was going through my commute. At one point on 580 headed toward Richmond on the bridge, the freeway was so flooded that the van next to me was kicking up enough water to completely cover my windshield. Torrential amounts of water, this van was kicking up. I had to slow down nearly to 20… on the freeway… in zero traffic… because I literally couldn’t see a thing without getting out of that van’s splatter-zone. I’m glad nobody was behind me at the time.

It was scary. The bridge was also fun.

So it’s still a day just to catch up on some DVR’d shows and to relax. Not quite sure how much snow is falling in the Sierra, my dad and I were going to go to the high country of Yosemite two weekends from now. So I’ll see what’s going on with that soon. Here it doesn’t really seem windy since I’ve been up (South San Jose), but it’s been raining pretty well

I’m also trying to decide if I want to sell my Wii and get a PS3 or 360. I just am mostly interested in sports games and RPGs and it seems like the other two systems are better for that at this moment in time. IDK.

I’m so excited for New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I was actually kind of disappointed by Mario Galaxy (and have mixed feelings about MG2… even though I’ll buy it and play it and enjoy it too, dammit), but NSMBW looks ridiculously awesome. I don’t care if it’s basically multiplayer enabled SMBDS. SMBDS was a freaking epically good game. And the one thing Mario has always needed is multiplayer. Count me the fuck in.

I was a SS. It was fun for a while. Being a really crappy hitter in the beginning forced me to change my approach develop an approach at the plate, and after a while I became really patient and started hitting well, which was pretty rewarding. I suddenly got sick of it during my first year in the majors. Only having 5 PA’s every game gets really tiring, and fielding was boring as hell.

At the theater: Couples Retreat . Meh, a couple of good lines. The main reason I wanted to see this was because it wasn’t ‘Love Happens’.
At home on dvd with Jr: Toy Story. I still laughed, we hadn’t watched that in a long time.
Rented & watched: Away We Go. I liked it. Me & the mrs connected to it because we did something similar 5 years ago.

OT: English Beat at Avalon this Friday

We bought tickets to see The English Beat Friday night at The Avalon in Santa Clara. We saw them last year and never had so much fun with our clothes on. Tickets for Friday’s show are only $20 each.

At these smaller club gigs, Dave Wakeling hangs out with the crowd, sighns autographs and will pose for pics with you. He was REALLY cool and the band was a blast. (Yes, I know he’s the only orignal member). Last year, he autographed a set list for me.

Coolest thing ever: He performs the song “Tenderness” as a fundraiser for “Smile Train” and charitbale group that provides facial reconstructive surgery for children in 3rd world coutries. While he plays the song, he asks people to throw cash on stage that goes to Smile Train.

It’s raining and miserable here in Sac. Driving to work wasn’t bad, cuz it was 630 in the AM and no one was out yet, that and you really couldn’t SEE all the horrible things lurking on the side of the road, ready to fall on you. Coming home was an adventure. So much fun when traffic lights are out at major intersections.

Only had a third of the class today, it was too nasty to walk kids to school, some of my smaller students would have been Mary Poppins’d in the wind!

Mr. Merope ended up staying home to keep an eye on the stupid window upstairs. The gutters are messed up and the run off backs up and pours down the side of the building, down the window, and into the apartment. It’s been doing this for 2 years now. They can’t quite get the thing fixed.

I realized that one of my mid-term essays is due today, when I thought it was due Thursday. I just want to go home, but I have one more class. I’m sitting in the library now, listening to The Beach Boys pretending it’s sunny. I’m rambling, I don’t care.

I thought it was Mike. I even thought about it for a second before I posted the comment as I wasn’t entirely sure. I was thinking of this, but I guess that was just a phone call and it was Marcello, not Mike

Glorious first day back

I was in the Big Easy for about 10 days for business stuff so today’s my first day back in the office. Woke up to the pouring rain and visibility on the freeway is terrible but thankfully, no traffic for me.

Win the inning.

I just bought a stack of vintage WWF magazines from 1988-89. I forgot how popular Ted Dibiase was.

Yuck. 3 shitty wrestlers and DiBiase.

Steamboat was great. Brown wasn’t much of a wrestler but I liked him. He was a badass.

I’m still in between jobs, so stayed home out of the weather here in San Jose reading blogs and saw one TV show on Fancast. Made a food run for some chili and they gave me a surfeit of crackers (5) at Wendy’s.

Then I saw a pic of some trail mix in a mag, and decided to make a half assed version of my own. I had a big container of salted almonds from Costco, so mixed some of those with slivered almonds (unsalted), sunflower kernals (salted), broken up wheat thins and saltines from Wendy’s.
