guzman
i’m very interested to see what guzman does in camp. between AA, and winter league his stats were rediculous. he is 24 already, but plays 2nd and 3rd. two weak spots on the roster. i’m rooting for him…
he’s not known as a defensive wizard at 2B or 3B, so I think his future may very well be at 1B

1b ?
haven’t seen many 165 lb. 1st sackers.
Hey, Andres Torres had a hell of a year in AAA. I didn’t know the Giants invited him to camp. A .500 SLG is pretty impressive for a former Antoan Richardson type.
And I just noticed that Scott McClain is back. I’d rather the Giants contribute to the Scott McClain Retirement Fund than the Rich Aurilia Home Remodeling Fund if they’re still looking for a 1B/3B who can spot start against lefties.

I wouldn’t go overboard on Buster coming to camp. You usually invite extra catchers to handle all those pitchers. Even the lowly Jackson Williams was invited.

I agree. There are a tons of ‘pens to catch. I would’ve been shocked if he wasn’t there.

We Can Now Clearly See That The Signing Of Ivan Ochoa On Oct 30th Was To A Minor League Deal
All this time it was just a mistake that he was listed on sfgiants.com on the 40 man roster. He now has been removed and is now found listed with the rest of the Non Roster Invitees where he belongs.
I see we invited Brandon Medders as well. He was pretty good when he first came up with the Dbacks. Might wind up being a smart move.

and more importantly, since we no longer have Puffer and Villafuerte, it gives us our obligatory relief pitching project named Brandon

Busty and friends!
"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

Huh?
Right-hander Kevin Pucetas, who has an outside chance to secure the No. 5 starter’s spot,
Who’s he gonna bump? Zito? Sanchez?
Gotta factor in Injuries and Trades
Pucetas or anyone else would only have a chance if there are injuries to the other starters and/or trades involving the starters. Pucetas could also do as Lincecum did a couple of years back and pitch so well in the minors that they had to find a spot for him.
I highly doubt he’ll dominate the upper minors like lincecum. I think the outside shot is mostly in case of an injury or a trade, as you initially stated.

really? You don’t think he’ll put up 0.29 ERA with a 13.4 K/9 rate and a 3.2 BB/9 rate? Come on, have a little faith man!

Give me a break, I’m just not used to optimism right now!
Now let me think. If I’m doing this right, pucetas was ranked as the fourth highest pitcher on our prospect list. So within a few years we should have a staff with lincecum as the fifth starter!

Torres is interesting as a 4A who can play centerfield. Otherwise it was Timpner and the abyss covering large outfields in the PCL.
Jake Wald is a surprise as a very slow developing weak hitting shortstop, tuirning 28.
I guess he is the backup to Ochoa or Burris in Fresno, tho Conn works better.
Could be too many infielders in Fresno and Conn.—Wald; Burris or Ochoa; Guzman; Maroul; Connor G; Rohlinger; Downs; Bond (actually outhit Downs in SJ); Bocock.
Does this mean either Phelps or McClain will make the big club ’cz having both of them in Fresno would be dumb? McClain at least can spell Pablo at third. Phelps is mentioned in the article as an outfielder….oh, really? wishful thinking.

What does a ST Invite mean?
Is there a ST roster? Do they get per diem? Do they have to report at a certain date? Or is it something in the paper you send home to make momma proud?
Jayson Stark did a pretty funny column last year about how we always talk about somebody being “invited” to Spring Training but nobody actually receives an invitation.
