OT- OMG I CAN'T GET "MY GIRLS" OUT OF MY HEAD
I can't wait to pick up Animal Collective's new album. I've listened to "My Girls" like 5 times in a row just now.

Giants bullpen...
No emusic for while, though, right? The Pitchfork review was pretty compelling. I’ve only heard one Animal Collective song (“Who Could Win a Rabbit”) and I hated it so much that I assumed that I wouldn’t enjoy anything else. Then Panda Bear’s album was one of my favorites last year, and now the buzz for the new AC album is heavy, so I’ll give them another chance.
Do you have the Dr. Dog “Fate” album from eMusic? Oh, man, that’s an album. I didn’t download their stuff because all of the reviews were all “’60s pop lol”, and I’m a little burnt on Brian Wilsonophiles. But I’m always up for some weird John Lennon/The Band hybrid, and that’s what Dr. Dog is.

This track sounds more like Panda Bear than Animal Collective to me… they seem to have adopted more of his method of stretching out single harmonies rather than playing changes, although this seems a bit less ambient than the Panda Bear album. I’m not sure when this one is coming out on emusic. I like them enough that I might just go get it from another source.
I actually haven’t picked up the Dr. Dog album. I’ve heard mixed things about it, but I’ve liked your recommendations in the past, so I’ll pick it up when emusic day comes (on the 10th, I think)
Speaking of Brian Wilson, have you heard that Joanna Newsom, Ys, album? It’s got a guy on there , Van Dyke Parks, who did some of the orchestration on the Beach Boys albums. It’s a really great album that I didn’t even notice until a couple years after it came out. Really weird, different, but great stuff, IMO.

I’ve have the Newsom album, but I haven’t gotten into it yet. It seems like an acquired taste that I haven’t acquired yet.
When I was goofy into the Beach Boys — collecting the albums on vinyl because they weren’t on CD yet — I heard good things about Parks’s “Song Cycle.” I bought it and sold it within one week; I just didn’t get it at all. But that’s when I was a teenager, so maybe I’d dig it now. I should look into that.

her voice is weird and she plays the fucking harp… I mean, really: the harp. It took me a while to get over those two things, but after that I really started getting into the album. I think her lyrics and song writing are incredible. And it seems like she can play the hell out of the harp, even though, she’s the only harpist I’ve every really listened to, so I don’t really have a great basis for knowing what playing the hell out of a harp is like… sure seems like it though.

I really like it so far! It reminds me of Person Pitch, which is a good thing imo.

I don't get it.
That is barely even music. Sounds like someone screwing around on Garageband.

for their entire body of work...
I’d probably take Radiohead as the best band still performing regularly. Animal Collective (and Panda Bear’s solo stuff) are probably putting out the most interesting stuff right now (for me, at least).

You know, my computer crashed after I posted this,
And I’ve been anxiously trying to restart the past 10 minutes so I could add the “except Radiohead” disclaimer. But you beat me.

Meh
I was surfing the music stations on my Inno while on a break and I came across this song. I don’t understand the fuss. It sounded like the new wave pop music that was popular in the ’80’s. Not that there is anything wrong with that type or genre of music. I guess it just isn’t my cup ot tea.

I was thinking the same thing when I heard the song. However it’s not even close to top level 80’s new wave, like Depeche Mode, The Cure or New Order type music. It’s more like average stuff you would hear on some eighties new wave compilation.
