If this is true
Why can’t we get him to play 1b? :)
he may be the one that Sabean said has no interest in playing 1b.
He didn’t specify if he was talking about Burrell or Dunn.

yeah
I was guessing Burrell since Dunn has played 1b in the past.
And 3B like Nate

if I remember Sabean’s quote correctly, he said the right handed FA lets in as many runs with his defense as he produces, and the left handed FA doesn’t want to play first. That would mean that Burrell is a horrible defensive first baseman, and Dunn doesn’t want to play there. Dunn played first for the Dbacks, but now that he’s an FA and has some control over the issue, I guess he’s looking for a team that wants him in the outfield.
Brian Sabean's dad- will make a few phone calls to help his son find a new job after next season

not saying Burrell’s play deserves much more than that, but it seems like in the past Burrell would have been able to get 3 or 4 years at 10 million+
that's a ridiculously great deal
for the rays. and he won’t be a defensive liability at DH. unbelievable.

The Phillies are dumb.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.
I'd like to know...
…where the Giants are on this. 2/20 would still be a great deal. Even if he sucks in LF, he’s cheap and can hit. Plus he’s a local guy.
The free agent LF class for next year is pretty bad (Holliday is going to get a fortune and I bet Jason Bay doesn’t make it to free agency), so the Giants shouldn’t get too picky and end up with nothing.
We Have In House Outfield Solutions And Don't Need To Sign One
Chasing Holiday next year would be a much better idea then chasing any of this year’s options even if it takes Teixeria money to get him. The only option this year that actually makes sense to me is to sign Barry for one year sense he is the only one that will thake a one year deal.

You clearly haven't been paying attention
Lewis, Rowand, Winn, Schierholtz.
None of them are amazing players, but they are all solid and likely above average. Burrell wouldn’t have been much of an upgrade. Burrell is probably worth about 2-2.5 wins. Rowand is probably worth about 2, Winn is probably 3-4, Lewis is probably about 2. It just isn’t much (if any) of an upgrade for your proposed $10 million a year.

Winn last 5 years
2004: 3.5
2005: 4.5
2006: 1.4
2007: 3.4
2008: 4.9
I expect him to keep it up for one more year at least.

I like this.

Wow
Just saw it on ESPN. I wouldn’t care if he would have wanted to not pay 1B, I’d have made him play 1B.

Sure, you can play LF…

This Would Not Work - You Can't Promise LF In Negoiations And Then Deliever 1B

No
But you could tell him that he’d be expected to make some starts at 1B based on Lewis’s play, with a guaranteed outfield spot available when Winn’s contract expires.
I don’t think he’d reject that if the Giants offered an extra year.
