Stupid SFGate Comments on Parade
As much as I enjoy participating in sites like MCC, I often wish that newspapers never decided to get on the audience participation bandwagon and add comment sections. Any time I'm foolish enough to wade in, the comments are always chock full of sub-literate and idiotic ramblings. Some people are clearly too stupid to understand the content of the article. Some people use the anonymity to air their sexism, racism, etc. Others have axes to grind and leave the same rants everywhere, regardless of context. The comments on Giants-related stories can be hilarious, too - back in June or so, I was called an idiot for saying the Giants' offense wasn't very good on SFGate.
Just now, though, I found a comment so stupid it really made me laugh. It was left on an opinion piece about Bill Richardson withdrawing from consideration as Commerce Secretary. BIG HONKING DISCLAIMER: the purpose of this fanpost is not to debate Bill Richardson, the incoming or outgoing administration, or the politics of diversity. Its purpose is to make fun of dumb people and thus feel superior.
Here's the relevant excerpt from the comment: "the 2003 SF Giants purposly fielded a team with diversity as a construct and the lost the Championship to a team which had no diversity except Garret Anderson- CHOOSE THE BEST!"
So, where to begin? This comment reveals a lot of things I didn't know:
- Apparently, the Giants played the Angels in the 2003 World Series.
- It's interesting to learn that Garrett Anderson was the only non-vanilla white man on the Angels. I wish I'd known this at the time - winning the World Series would've been easier had I known Francisco Rodriguez wasn't an Angel.
- And I guess Bengie Molina is a WASP from Iowa. Who knew!?
- Apparently, in the early 00s, the Giants were only hiring players because they were "diverse." Again, I wasn't aware of this at the time. I guess that explains their trades for such noted Zulu warriors as Jason Schmidt, ay Witasick, and David Bell.
So yes: dumb comments on sites like SFGate. Rather than just making fun of dumb MCC posts by TakeAGiantStepNGo, let's make fun of them, too.

SORRY NOT FRED LEWIS FAN HE REMINDS ME TO MUCH OF CHILI DAVIS .270 HITTER 14HRS MAX. I THINK HIS VALUE IS IN TRADE.
by Grant on Jan 14, 2009 9:15 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
Since Chili Davis hit 14 homers a year max, and 350 for his career, we can thus conclude that he played more than 25 seasons. Since his rookie year came in 1981, he may well still be playing for a Major League team!

I think it’s funny how Ralph Barbari is convinced signing Ramirez will guarantee the division. He was about to rip Baer’s head off the other day just because Baer said they can’t comment on anything.

I like Fitz and Brooks. Sometimes I am surrounded by laundry / paperwork / lesson plans so by the time Ralph and Tom hit the airwaves at 3pm I am not able to actually get to the radio to turn them off so I usually end up listening to 30 – 45 minutes of the show before Ralph says something so ridiculous that I will spill lemonade on report cards to get to the radio to turn them off.

I think you should keep Lowry see what he can do in spring training. TRADE SANCHEZ!!! Becuase we could get Atkins or Edwin Encarnacion those are very valuable players in the corners of the infield. And if lowry does slump trade for another pitcher like Miguel Batista. TRADE SANCHEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The SF Giants have a proud history. Let’s keep it that way. Youth movement? Brian Sabean couldn’t stick to a plan if meant going to get an Ice Cream cone. Add Manny plus Randy “The Big Jerk” Johnson plus Howry and the sum total is how many years? How about the average age of the all 3? Building a winner means sticking to a proven plan. Sabean does not have a plan. He is a Band-Aid GM and know this. “Brian Sabean could not lead a Circle Jerk.” He would screw that up. Book it.

Perhaps by developing mind control beams that cause his hitters to, y’know, hit.
During the 2008 season, I remember someone writing a fanpost that postulated that maybe Cain got no run support because the hitters hated him and were deliberately tanking because he beat his girlfriend. So we get dumb comments here, too!

Henry Schulmann (Hi Henry) seems to read this website. I’ve read his blog and MCC has come up a few times.
A McC newcomer but not outstanding.

Jack Taschner’s mom reads MCC too, so watch your language.

Several years back, he occasionally popped up on alt.sports.baseball.sf-giants. Some of the posters there were skeptical, and had him word an Abe Vigoda reference into one of his columns to prove he was real.

I’m glad I’ve spoken highly of him here, then.
"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

Wouldn’t want him coming to get you. The MCC just wouldn’t be the same without you.

I knew about the cake
I just didn’t realize that there was an outside of the cake. I thought we were all in the cake.

Don’t make pie curb-stomp all of you.
It will……and you won’t enjoy it! (well, you’ll enjoy the flavor, but the curb-stomping is going to hurt!)

Apparently, anger at sabean is beaten only by anger at other commenters.
return to your slimey HellHole of elitist non-existence, you c*m-guzzling OC, Ca. Jerk*ff. “commenters” are not tolerated and thus, have no voice on MBs. Grow some nads, move from sCUM-ville, get a nick and then we can talk. NOT a word until then !!!

Also This Giants Team Will Win 91 Games
Why does Sabean always look constipated?

Hey everyone
I think we’re overlooking a key element in the “should manny come to SF?” debate, one that is very succinctly pointed out by a wise commenter:
Manny blows goats for quarters that being said i fourth that sabean. He would fit right in. after games you can see him at the donkey shows.
Hmmm, interesting. Discuss.
by bondslegend on Jan 16, 2009 11:17 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
Does he blow goats or does he do donkey shows? Get it straight, people!

From ESPN article about Giants being darkhorse contenders in the West...
"with all due respect…randy johnson will only make the giants worse every start he makes. he has been washed up since he was a bust in new york. randy johnson wont put them in the playoffs for sure. maybe if zito can find his stuff again or if they can land manny. im a yankee fan and randy johnson is done!! stick a fork in him. his fastball is sub par and sliders hang up therre and looks like a beach ball. giants better pray for zito to want to play again like he did in oakland. a lot of ppl will be disappointed w/ the "
“Yes they need a bat but there is no obvious way to do that which means they are still in trouble. One good bat will move Molina out of the 4 and down to the 6 or 7 where he can do major damage and the team has a real chance to contend…I say sign Manny, trade Sanchez/Lowry, Lewis and Frandsen/Burriss to Milwaukee for Prince Fielder.”

oh it gets worse
here’s a similar yet even dumber post from sfgiants.com:
MAYBE TODAY WOULD BE A GOOD DAY TO MAKE CHANGES GIANTS BRASS, AND GO OUT AND MAKE THE GIANTS A WINNER, BY SIGNING MANNY RAMIREZ ,AND THEN SEND JONATHAN SANCHEZ AND AaRON ROWAND, ALONG WITH VELEZ TO MILWAUKEE, FOR PRINCE FIELDER..THAT TEAM WOULD WIN THE WORLD SERIES HANDS DOWN.SO QUIT SITTING ON YOUR HANDS SABEAN, BAER ,BEFORE ITS TO LATE, AGAIN.
you can’t make these up.
