from that internet thing:

but why would LucasFilm target MLB audiences to insert this into the calendar? Besides being quirky.

I don’t think they should reconfigure the park everytime the players change. The Polo Grounds was over 500 feet in centerfield.
by Lars The Wanderer on Sep 9, 2008 9:29 PM PDT up reply actions
Different times.
I agree that the park shouldn’t be reconfigured everytime players change – but we’ve had our once-in-a-lifetime player that could take advantage of the dimensions. If it’s not realistic anymore, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be on the table. Maybe. Ask me again tomorrow, and I could think the opposite.

FRESH FROM THE STAT LAIR
In the first gameday thread, kingofthacove asked
> does anyone have barry zito’s stats when he wins and when he loses?
I took that as a challenge. So, here is (last year and this year combined) :
ZITO WINS (21-0)
6.62 IP
6.47 K/9
1.11 WHIP
1.94 ERA
5.90 Run Supp
ZITO LOSES (0-30)
4.86 IP
5.25 K/9
2.02 WHIP
8.59 ERA
2.30 Run Supp
ZITO ND (team is 4-8, + tonight)
6.15 IP
6.30 K/9
1.23 WHIP
3.71 ERA
3.92 Run Supp
man, I know there’s usually a big split between wins and losses, but that seems like an epically big split.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
I think that
that’s about usual.
If I ran the numbers for Cain, Schmidt, Woody, anyone – they usually look about that big a difference
I’m actually pretty confident that Cain has a 2.00 ERA in his losses actually, which is better than when he wins.
by paboperfecto on Sep 10, 2008 10:49 AM PDT up reply actions
Oh and also
The biggest thing that seems to lead to a Zito loss is walks. Lots and lots of walks :
W – 1.94 ERA, 6.47 K/9, ~.239 BABIP, 0.45 HR/9, 3.11 BB/9
ND – 3.71 ERA, 6.30 K/9, ~.210 BABIP, 1.13 HR/9, 3.94 BB/9
L – 8.59 ERA, 5.25 K/9, ~.298 BABIP, 1.36 HR/9, 6.24 BB/9
