yep. I blame Natto if Timmy doesn’t get the CG

should add
to make it more clear:
He’s the favorite because he controls his destiny. If he messes up, then it opens the door for Webb and CC and Dempster…but he has 4 starts, I think. 3 more wins and no big fat ER number, in other words, keep doing what he’s done all year, and he wins.

This would be what, the second Giants complete game all year, right?
I can’t even remember who else got one, but I seem to recall it happening.

WOO HOO
Seriously, Tim is now 16-3 on one of the worst teams in the majors. How the hell is that not enough wins?
I'll say it again
Timmy is in the driver’s seat for the Cy Young. Barring no-hitters and perfect games and tons of shutouts by Webb/CC, all Tim has to do is pitch the way he has all year and finish with his numbers staying in the same area and he wins.

In a world where sportswriters and sports media are intelligent and objective, this would be true.
But the people who vote for this award are people like Bruce Jenkins, except not as bright.
Why couldn't McCovey have hit the ball just three feet higher??
Have things changed
I remember it being 2 beat writers from local papers per team.
These are guys who travel and see every game. They know about Timmy. It’s not talking heads on ESPN who haven’t touched a jock strap in their lives.
by positiveuphemism on Sep 8, 2008 9:57 PM PDT up reply actions
The only edge Webb has is in wins. In everything else – ERA, K, WHIP, Winning %, BAA, etc – Tim wins. Even the writers will notice that, a la Randy Johnson in 1999, and Webb only has a 3-win edge vs 5 for Hampton that year.

I think you're right
but it’ll still come down to the last few starts. Certainly if Tim’s ERA drops to over one run lower than Webb’s, it’s over. (right now: 2.54 v. 3.41, I think)

He was covering first on the would-be DP. According to Jon Miller, he badly overran first base, then had to reach back for the throw, which ended up glancing off his glove. Good pitching, bad defense.

I think the only reason saves is on there
was because of Gagne’s year so they had to have it worth something. That’s the only thing not accurate in the formula it looks like as its been right like 90% of the time the last 5 years if you take out closers.
