With the lead in and link, I thought, “Wow, Connor is going to start at third today!?!”

Nope.

Lewis batting 6th?

Castillo got the DFA. Guestimate for Castillo DFA to come before the 2009 season = 2.

From today's Chronicle:
Manager Bruce Bochy said he didn’t plan to start Gillaspie in the next couple of days, though pinch-hitting is a possibility. The immediate focus, Bochy said, is for the coaches to work with Gillaspie, who doesn’t expect to finish the season with the Giants because he’s scheduled to join the instructional league in Arizona this month.

That lineup is like music to my… eyes, I guess.

Also, that press release is wrong. Dizzy was a second-round pick. Greg Papa told me several times yesterday, Amy Whatserface confirmed, and they’re on the TV, not the crazy interwebs. A sandwich does sound good, though.

I didn’t realize he could take that position.

And I like that they are mixing up the line-up at the end of the year, see if Nate-Pablo-McClain can knock some runs in.

There’s something about Velez’ approach to the game that rubs me the wrong way. Kinda like how Todd Linden lost me when he didn’t run out a grounder to first (he gave up and was about to head back to the dugout before the ball even got to first for the put-out). Part of it is the way that Velez telegraphs when he’s going to take a pitch all the way – it’s just not the way a rook should play.

I understand that, but Ochoa looks so helpless and terrible at the plate that I can’t imagine he’ll ever be a major leaguer. Velez, on the other hand, even with his attitude problems could maybe be something decent if I squint hard enough. ABs for Ochoa, at this point, are pretty much a waste.

This may be true. It might just be that we have to suffer with lame-ass 2B-men until Frandsen comes back (put him at 2nd, find another solution at 3rd).

I was initially a Velez supporter at the beginning of the season. But his play has changed my mind.

Ah, I see. That’s one of those rules that rarely gets enforced, like how you’re not supposed to get first if you don’t try to avoid getting hit. Back in the 90s, I remember going to a game at Candlestick where Bret Boone got HBP TWICE on balls he swung at – and was given first both times, and both times it lead to a big rally. Drove me crazy.

No, that was in Chicago and it was his first game with the Giants.

The Giants have commercials where they talk about some memory from a player. Kevin Mitchell’s commercial is him talking about his first game with the Giants, at Wrigley, when he hit two home runs and Roger Craig said that if he hit three, he (Craig) would give him a white horse. Mitchell, in his third at bat, hit the wall.
