Welcome to the bigs Connor
glad to see you’re coming up to sit the bench
Giants! Giants! HELP US GOD!
From today's Chronicle:
Manager Bruce Bochy said he didn’t plan to start Gillaspie in the next couple of days, though pinch-hitting is a possibility. The immediate focus, Bochy said, is for the coaches to work with Gillaspie, who doesn’t expect to finish the season with the Giants because he’s scheduled to join the instructional league in Arizona this month.
Does this mean he’s only going to be here for a couple weeks at most?

That lineup is like music to my… eyes, I guess.
Also, that press release is wrong. Dizzy was a second-round pick. Greg Papa told me several times yesterday, Amy Whatserface confirmed, and they’re on the TV, not the crazy interwebs. A sandwich does sound good, though.
Proud adopter of Jason Jarvis: let's see YOU pass an online music course without cheating!
umm...

yes a sandwich would be nice.

McClain at third?
I didn’t realize he could take that position.
And I like that they are mixing up the line-up at the end of the year, see if Nate-Pablo-McClain can knock some runs in.
Barry Zito - Mildly half-OK! Sometimes.
Randy Winn says that he’s quite good at it.
Travis Denker can hit a little. That's why I drive his bus.
Pretty okay lineup. I’d rather see Ochoa than Velez, though, for no reason in particular.
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
Ugh
I’d be okay with Ochoa not starting for the rest of the year.

There’s something about Velez’ approach to the game that rubs me the wrong way. Kinda like how Todd Linden lost me when he didn’t run out a grounder to first (he gave up and was about to head back to the dugout before the ball even got to first for the put-out). Part of it is the way that Velez telegraphs when he’s going to take a pitch all the way – it’s just not the way a rook should play.

I understand that, but Ochoa looks so helpless and terrible at the plate that I can’t imagine he’ll ever be a major leaguer. Velez, on the other hand, even with his attitude problems could maybe be something decent if I squint hard enough. ABs for Ochoa, at this point, are pretty much a waste.
Trent Kline: Decentish. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com. It's not being updated right now. Hope for more at your own risk.
This may be true. It might just be that we have to suffer with lame-ass 2B-men until Frandsen comes back (put him at 2nd, find another solution at 3rd).
I was initially a Velez supporter at the beginning of the season. But his play has changed my mind.
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
But but but….I don’t see anyone willing to run into a wall in that lineup. I see only pansies

He does seem to swing at a lot of pitches out of the strike zone. The interesting thing is that he makes pretty good contact, he’s just got a different idea of what “his pitch” is. Good bad-ball hitter are not a terrible thing; see Guerrero, Vladimir.

He was swinging at the pitch and was awarded first on an HBP. By the rules you can’t get first on an HBP if you’re swinging.
Proud member of the Adopt-a-Giant program (Aaron Rowand)
Ah, I see. That’s one of those rules that rarely gets enforced, like how you’re not supposed to get first if you don’t try to avoid getting hit. Back in the 90s, I remember going to a game at Candlestick where Bret Boone got HBP TWICE on balls he swung at – and was given first both times, and both times it lead to a big rally. Drove me crazy.
