Posey to go to San Jose for playoffs

from Schulman's notes on sfgate:

"Briefly: Talk about fast-tracking a guy. First-round draft pick Buster Posey will be promoted to Class A San Jose for the California League playoffs this weekend. It will be his third team in a week. He hit .385 in 26 at-bats in the Arizona Rookie League, then went 3-for-11 with two RBIs after his promotion to Salem-Keizer, Ore., in the rookie-level Northwest League. Fans can see Posey and San Jose play at 6 p.m. Saturday at Municipal Stadium."

This should be interesting.

It's just the playoffs. Not too surprising really.

Is Alderson starting that game? If so I need to buy tickets…

Alderson is starting – is this a good idea to work with a new catcher or do you think he will DH?

I’ve lived around this area [first off of Northrup, then off of Hurley, now off Fulton] since ‘95, and I’ll tell ya, the neighborhood isn’t getting any better!

We should start planning our World Series potluck event; then again… by 2012 we hope to be back in the bay area!

Unless of course the world comes to a screeching halt as per the Mayan calendar.

I, too, have high hopes for Dollhouse. Strangely, I couldn’t get into Buffy. But Firefly was a well-cast masterpiece. Nathan Fillion absolutely WAS his character, and his dialogue was underplayed genius. You absolutely must run to the store and get the DVD’s. I’d send you mine, but they’re not allowed to leave the house. : )

by howtheyscored on Sep 5, 2008 5:06 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Oh, I was just being rhetorical

I have the Firefly DVD box set, too. Nathan’s a great actor. You want to see something interesting, watch the episodes from the final Buffy season with Nathan playing the demented, violently misogynistic Preacher, The character’s completely the inverse of his Firefly character, and yet his line readings and general swagger are quite similar — just a slightly different spin that makes them chilling and revolting rather than fun and heroic. He’s an old friend of Joss, so I guess he just understands how to sling that lingo. He’s also a featured player in Dr. Horrible which is only available from ITunes and is well worth the four bucks.

Not on DVD, but on DVR waiting to be watched

“Edward Scissorhands” Mrs Goofus ever saw and I love anything by Tim Burton (especially with Danny Elfman’s score)

“Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas” (Johnny Depp version) – We started watching it the other day and both fell asleep on the coach. A little too much “camera effects simulating drug trip” for my taste.

falling asleep on the coach

I’m hoping it was Tim Flannery, and not Carney Lansford. No way it was Bochy – his head would be too uncomfortable.

I've come to the conclusion that the two most important things in life are good friends and a good bullpen. - Bob Lemon, 1981

How could anyone fall asleep on Flannery with him waving his arms like a migrating goose?

Like Barry Zito, I'm mildly half-OK.

Fear and Loathing = much more than just simulated drug trip

At least, I think so. It’s one of my favorite movies. Scene with Flea in the bathroom = INCREDIBLE.

San Jose vs Stockton

like mini version of the bay bridge series

sj has the edge in pitching definitely with alderson/english/tanner/pucetas etc

the stockton rotation and bullpen has been depleted w/ promotions to upper levels. no one really noteable other than closer sam demel

outside of posey/d’alessio any other legit hitting prospects for SJ?

Stockton offense core is mostly carter/brown/donaldson

any thoughts and predictions on this series?

Jesus, I read your screen name as “AsianFever723” and I thought you were some guy we’ve banned like 4 times already.

I was this close to banning you from mistaken identity…

Of course, now that I’ve read your name the right way, I keep seeing it wrong again, now as Aslan4ever723, and can’t get it out of my head that you’re a big Narnia fan. No ban for that, though.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

You weren’t the only one who read that as AsianFever…

Farewell, Ray. We'll miss your smile and your sugar. Welcome, Steve Hammond "Eggs". Throw strikes.

Ignoring groug’s comments is generally a good idea, though.

..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

Generally, yeah. But when you’re making a stupid joke? That’s when you need to make sure I didn’t do it first.

to answer your question . . .

San Jose is mostly pitching.

I don’t think D’Alessio is prospect anymore, if he ever was. Matt Downs is old for this level, but some people consider him a prospect.I guess Jackson Williams is a prospect based on his draft position, but you’d ave a hard time finding anyone here who takes him seriously.

Darren Ford may one day add to our mighty army of fifth outfielders.

Personally I like to see the A’s and Giants with success in the low minors.

Posey looked overmatched early...

but did get a hit in the 8th with 2 on/nobody out as part of the SJG’s 4-run rally.

Wasn’t exactly a frozen rope—he swung late and sent one the other way; if the Stockton 1B hadn’t been playing toward the line it’s an out and maybe a DP.

We sat near the family of one of the “regular” catchers who got deactivated for the playoffs when Posey got called up. Felt kind of bad for them and him, but that’s the breaks.
