Q&A with Augusta pitching coach Ross Grimsley on Madison Bumgarner | Extra Baggs
In case you missed it, Madison Bumgarner pitched another eight scoreless innings last night. He allowed three runners when he got bored, and then picked them all off for even greater amusement. The title of this post links to an Andrew Baggarly interview with the Augusta pitching coach.
I can't get enough Bumgarner information. Kevin Goldstein has some nice things to say about Bumgarner in a recent chat. That's not enough, dang it. There has to be more out there. I've noticed that the New York Times has been strangely silent on Bumgarner, at least on the front page. Nothing from Time or The Economist, either. I find their lack of confidence disturbing.
Matt Cain went from South Atlantic League domination to the majors within two seasons. Does Bumgarner move as quickly as Cain, or does he move even faster? Does Bumgarner lead the Giants to seven straight championships, or will they be non-consecutive. Stirring questions, all.

If you have five dollars and Madison Bumgarner has five dollars, Madison Bumgarner has more money than you.
There is no ‘ctrl’ button on Madison Bumgarner’s computer. Madison Bumgarner is always in control.

Madison Bumgarner is having a much easier time playing through the original Mega Man for the first time in his life than I am.

Infinite lives would significantly reduce my frustration level.
As a Mario Platformer guy, the controls in this game are simply far more unforgiving. I’m getting much better, though. I just can’t figure out why this rock gun I got won’t fire anything. The scissor gun works fine….

I spent many days and nights trying to conquer Mega Man I.
Use the scissor gun on Elec Man and you’ll be fine.
Here’s the complete video walkthrough.

NY Times, Time and The Eonmist have devoted a lot of their resoures to the presidential onventions. They knew a Mad Bum article would overshadow coverage of Obama, Biden, Palin and McCain and they’d end up looking foolish for devoting so much time to politics.

Strangely, it doesn’t bother me. i think I must see 5 or 6 sites a day at work that have more eye-gouging color schemes, so I must be desensitized.

High-A then AA next year, midseason call-up 2010?
Does Alderson get to the majors first?

Well, Cain:
Threw 74 innings in the SAL as an 18 year old. (90K 24BB). The following year @ 19 he split between A+ and AA, for a total of 159 innings (161k, 57BB) .
The next year, @ 20 years old, he pitched 145 innings for Fresno (176K, 73BB) before being called up for good.
That is a total of 400 MiL innings.
If we see Bumgarner following the Matt Cain fast track (Which I don’t think is unreasonable), then I would expect to see him make his debut during his age 20 season. That suggests sometime during the 2010 season (probably earlier than September if the team is in contention). That also correlates innings wise assuming he throws somewhere around 150 next season.
On the flip side, Lincecum only threw 70 innings in the minor leagues – but he was a college pitcher (And even more exception than Cain was).
Sanchez only threw 250 – which I find particularity interesting. They really did fuck his development by sticking him the ’pen.
I think that, excepting total domination at A+/AA next year – Bumgarner is on track for 2010.
Total domination may result in a September 09 callup (A~la Kershaw) after only ~200 MiL innings.
Eugeniooooooo!!!!

Top Prospect: Bumgarner or Posey? If you could only keep one, who?
I’m honestly torn. I suspect Bumgarner will be higher on most of the prospect lists, but Posey has a damn impressive college resume.
by Dan from NM on Sep 4, 2008 5:45 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Bumgarner, but it’s close. Our top 5 is going to look nice next season, with MadBum, Posey, Alderson, AnVil and Sandoval (I would imagine.)
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
by jponry on Sep 4, 2008 6:14 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’m wondering if Sandoval is going to exhaust his rooking eligibility. He’s more than halfway to 130 at bats. Not that it matters in the long run.

Posey. I think.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

How can you say that Bumgarner will lead us to the seven straight championships?
That baton has been given to Tim if you don’t know that already. This Bumgardner is good, real good, but he will not be the same force as Tim LIncecum.
