Ex-Giant Prospect Sharion Martis to make his MLB debut tonight
Traded to the Nats in 06 for Mike Stanton, Martis is set to make his first career start tonight. I'll probably tune in to check him out.

Also, a nice article from July on his development. He’s only 21-years-old and he pitched in the Futures Game this year.

For the season, Martis is a combined 4-5 with 3.94 ERA for Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Columbus. He has 78 strikeouts in 98 1/3 innings. But what opened a lot of eyes was that Martis added velocity to his fastball. The righty’s fastball clocked in at 94 mph this year after registering in the high 80s last season.
Mike Stanton is no longer in baseball.

He’ll be the second youngest pitcher to play in the majors this year. Fuck Brian Sabean.

Which I googled and found him here...
Playing for the Long Beach Armada in Independent League ball. So he’s not out of baseball, yet. I mean come on….he’s playing for the NATIONALS!?! Come on guys, Palmer would most likely be in the starting rotation over there.

He was purchased by the Dodgers after starting the season with Long Beach.

Regardless, he’s a legitimate prospect and we traded him for garbage. Martis could kill Elijah Dukes (and boy, it was a struggle for me to come up with a good player on the Nats to insert to that line) in a knife fight tomorrow and it would still have been a inexcusable trade.

Forgetting, of course, Ryan Zimmerman, the good player on the Nats. headslap

MEH.
Trash for little better than trash. He caught my eye earlier this year….he had a 5 ERA in AA…not impressive. Yeah. He’s young and in the big leagues. So are a lot of people right now. Doesn’t mean they amount to anything more than a pay raise.

He’s put up strong numbers over the last two years while being young for his leagues (very young this year), and regardless of whether he had a 5 ERA when you happened to check he actually finished the year with a 3.98 ERA there. He’s not a top prospect but he’s a blue chip guy and I’d certainly much rather have him in our system then ever have seen Mike Stanton in a Giants uniform (and more than Charlie Culberson if you want to go that route).

True.
I’ll give you that. We’ll see how he works out. I know he was something to watch in the system a couple years back before he got traded, but that doesn’t mean anything. Time will tell I suppose.

and arguing that...
Culberson isn’t a great pick at the comp spot we got for ditching Stanton has nothing to do with the necessity or the value of the trade itself. It’s an afterthought, AT BEST.

Killed Elijah Dukes in a knife fight before or after Dukes threw a bottle of Gatorade at him?
"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

This just reminds me how sad it was that we had Mike Stanton as our closer at one point.

Can’t say i’m bothered by that trade to be honest, Martis has never struck me as that good a prospect. He’s worth more than Stanton obviously, but not as valuable as a Sandwich pick in my opinion. We didn’t end up using that pick very well, but that’s a different issue & so i have no problem with that particular trade.
