ssA: Salem-Keizer defeated Vancouver 3-0
(maintaining their one game lead with one game to play and clinching their division title since they own the tiebreaker over Eugene)

Salem-Keizer: C Buster Posey: 0 for 3, BB, E
Salem-Keizer: RF Francisco Peguero: 1 for 3, 3B, 2 SO

Salem-Keizer: RHP Edwin Quirarate: 1.1 IP, 4 K

The Volcanoes' offense was limited to four hits, a walk and a hit batter, with no one reaching base twice.  Peguero's 4th triple was the only XBH for either team.  Posey drew one of only two walks in the game.  Posey and Peguero and other regulars may not even be present for tonight's season finale, as a fair number of the team may be on an early bus to Spokane, where the NWL championship series begins on Thursday.)

Loree pitched six scoreless innings to improve his ERA to 2.44.  King and Quirarte struck out all five batters batters they faced and stranded two inherited runners in the 8th inning to preserve the shutout.

R: Giants won the league championship on Sunday

DSL: Game 1 of Giants at Nationals was postponed by rain

What do folks think will happen to D’Alessio next season? I’m personally done with him.

I think he'll play winter ball somewhere (hawaii, perhaps?)

and depending on that goes he’ll either stay at SJ or move to AA.

He’ll float around the lower levels for awhile.

A+ pitching note: had he stayed in Augusta all season, Daryl Maday would have likely joined MadBum, Brewer, Clark, and Odle at the top of the league pitching stats.

From BP Yesterday

Angel Villalona, 1B, Low-A Augusta (Giants)

This was probably not the best year to be a young hitter in the South Atlantic League; with the performances by Montero, Stanton, and many others, it was easy to be overlooked. Just 17 years old for most of the season, Villalona’s mediocre performance had him getting passed by for good reason, but with his size, swing, and age, most scouts remain quite high on him, and he finished the year strong, going 6-for-11 with a pair of home runs in his last three games of the season and hitting .308/.363/.529 in August. If Montero was as young as most of this year’s high school draftees, Villalona is as young as most of next year’s group, and despite an overall line of .263/.312/.435, he remains an excellent prospect.

Big V season even more impressive

in essence it was really his JUNIOR year of high school.

Works for me.

Years ago MLB attempted to have to what amounted to a spring training tournament in Las Vegas. Believe four teams where invited, however,it was washed away due to a rainy weekend. My buddy and I just finished taking our lumps off the craps tables and were commiserating with a midnight buffet when I noticed this hulk of a man sitting a few tables over. Turned to my buddy and said “That is Frank Thomas”. My buddy, who is 6’3" and about 225lbs says “He ain’t so big”. I laughed. A few minutes later Thomas and his crew finish their meal and walk out and my buddy then says “He is huge. He looks like a football player”.

On second thought

the 2008 season was really his SENIOR high school season. Big V is one year younger than Madison Bumgarner and we all know how Bummy dominated the Sally League.

San Jose First Basemen

D’Alessio wasn’t San Jose’s #1 first baseman this year. Mostly Dhed. Good hitter who really got into a funk the end of the season. Nowhere else to put him and not too good on the bases, either.
