Right On!
"Rather than weaken the rotation, the Giants might take one bold move to strengthen it. According to a team source, the Giants plan to investigate the Hope Diamond of free-agent pitchers this winter, CC Sabathia, to gauge his interest in returning to his native Bay Area."

I still don’t know where they think they’re getting the money for this.
"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' They’re gonna switch Zito’s and Sabbathia’s I.D.s.

Let’s dream a dream that they have some master plan to dump Zito on the Yankees. Maybe Rowand too.

purely from a standpoint of a fan
this move would rock. That seems like a good investment.

Schierholtz "wait and see"?
He should get lots of at-bats next year. If he doesn’t, somethings wrong.
What about Zimmerman? Do you think we have the minor league arms to pull him away from the pitching-starved Nats?

I keep wondering what the deal is with Nate. Is he an alcoholic? A wife beater? Is there some non-baseball issue that is keeping him in the minors? ?

worse.
He has a bad walk to strikeout rate has never hit for power outside of Fresno,
Travis Denker can hit a little. That's why I drive his bus.

Never hit for power?
What makes you say this? Hyperbole? His worst season of SLG was .443 in Connecticut at 22
Castillo got the DFA. Guestimate for Castillo DFA to come before the 2009 season = 2.

His MLE’s have never been any good though. This was the first year that he broke an .800 OPS MLE, and it was exactly .800. Basically, he’s going to have to hit .320 in the majors to be productive, and a guy with that type of plate discipline and average power isn’t likely to do that.

it’s a little hyperbole.
If Nate had absolutely destroyed Fresno and San Jose, I’d be more confident about him.

I’m really not sure what to think of this.
I really like C.C., but will he be worth the big contract 2 or 3 years from now?

6 days?
Yost rid him hard down the stretch. I’m concerned about his future performance.
Also, we lose draft picks, right?

I know you can’t be afraid to make a deal, but it would suck to have 2 Zito contracts.

He hasn’t shown any sign of wearing down… yet.
He might come through this perfectly unscathed, but I think you have to take his stretch-run workload into consideration when you’re evaluating him. His body type and mechanics certainly suggest that he can handle it, but there’s really no way to tell (yet) whether or not he pitched his arm off.

Body Type?
As long as his body is the type with ligaments and tendons, then it don’t much matter.

I heard that, given his weight, he might be susceptiple to leg injuries. This, which as we all know, can be just as bad as arm problems for pitchers.
I think it would be worth the gamble though if we didn’t already have the Zito contract.

The Giants should put in a bid and get involved in negotiations, just to drive up the price for the Dodgers.

Hey while we're at it
Let’s sign Manny Ramirez & Mark Teixeira! The Giants have DEEP POCKETS!
F*ck being able to sign Lincecum & Cain to longer contracts. Their arms are a dime a dozen.

I've been thinking about this, and I wonder...
Why should we sign Lincecum AND Cain to FA contracts? We’d end up with $50M a season (40-50% of the payroll in 2012) spent on 3/5ths of our starting rotation. Unlike some people, I don’t necessarily have a problem with tying up 50% of the payroll in three players, but only if they’re worth the money (Zito ain’t) and not if they’re all on the same side of the ball. And ESPECIALLY not if they do the only thing that your team seems to be able to develop through their farm system. (Also, I’m generally a bit queasy about giving big money deals to pitchers; IMO, hitters have a much more predictable return on investment).

They will have to resign Lincecum
Barring some sort of crazy injury or production fallout, in which case it will be UnleashTheElectricChair. So that must mean you advocate not resigning Cain, in which case…

it’s not grammar naziism at all; it’s the fact that “resign” means more or less the opposite of what you’re trying to say.
