Barry Zito's anti-theme song.

Poor Tom – Led Zeppelin

Yea his name is Barry not Tom, but hey, I’m working with a drunk mind here. Lay off me. And that’s the song playing so there’s not really much else I can try and think about.

The Dinner thread

So what are we all having for dinner tonight?

I felt a bit fancy but wanted to keep it light. I arranged canned tuna, diced tomatoes, and shredded carrots on whole romaine hearts and topped it with fresh made guacamole. Steamed some broccoli and served it all with good crusty sourdough bread.

It was definitely from the Chronicle, but I can’t find it on sfgate. Oh well. I’ll type it up real quick:

Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons fish sauce
- 3 tablespoons lime juice
- 3 tablespoons water
- 3 teaspoons sugar
- 1 lb daikon radish
- 2 carrots
- 1 1/2 ahi tuna fillet
- salt and pepper
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 1 large sweet baguette
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1/2 bunch cilantro, stems trimmed
- 1-2 fresh jalapenos, thinly sliced

Combine the fish sauce, lime juice, water, and sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves.

Peel the daikon and shred it in a food processor. Repeat the carrots. Place the daikon and carrots in separate bowls and divide the fish sauce mixture between them. Toss well and set aside.

Season the tuna on both sides with salt and pepper. Heat a large skillet with the oil. When very hot, add the tuna. Sear on one ide for 2 minutes, then flip and repeat on the other side. Remove from the pan.

Slice the baguette into 4 pieces and cut in half into a hot dog bun shape. Scoop out about a 1/2 inch layer of bread from both flaps. Spread both sides with mayonnaise.

Slice the tuna to fit the baguette, and place on top. Squeeze as much liquid as you can from the vegetables and place them atop the fish. Arrage the cilantro and chile slices over the vegetables.

I like to marinade my tuna steaks with a homemade teriyaki sauce (a little honey, soy sauce, some brown sugar, little lime juice) and then sear them up on a grill. Can’t go wrong with tuna steaks.

I wanted to figure out a way to use some chipotle peppers in adobo sauce and chicken, but couldn’t seem to pull something together (any ideas, folks?). So it’ll be some frozen manicotti, veggies and garlic bread. And a big glass of wine in honor of the Zito start.

And I love good crusty sourdough bread. Wish I wasn’t too lazy to maintain a starter and bake my own.

It looks like lame hipster garbage but if you say it’s good I might have to give it a try.

"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Ok well wanna take a crack at it?

I need to find the parameters of a Normal model and here’s all the info I have:

90% of copiers will last 36 months, 65% will last 42. The previous problem found that the first model had an sd of 4.7, with 10% failing at 36(so basically 90% lasting 36 months.)

The first problem was a mean of 42, SD of 7.

Hardly enough info, but that’s the best I can come up with.

we now know we have two for sure everyday players out of our system in Sandy and Flew
we found out we have two proable everyday players in Burriss and Juggernate
we found several more with major league potential in Ishi, Bowker, and Velez
we found our most reliable closer in BWilson since Nen along with several legit set up pieces with Hinshaw, Matos, and until he got hurt Valdez
we found out Timmy will meet or exceed any and all expectations
almost as important as all that success was the players we were able to evaluate that are not ready for the majors yet ie. Ochoa, Rohlinger, Bocock, and to lesser extent Gilasspie
add to all this that we still have MadBum, T2, Posey, BigV just to name a few coming up soon and I’m excited about being a giants fan.

I agree, 2008 will be looked upon as the year that it started to turn around.

Manny Ramirez best July acquisition ever?

dude is hitting .398 with 17 HR and 53 RBI in 50 games.

With a Bondslike OPS of 1.248.

In 50 games in Boston he had 20 HR and 68 RBI haha.

Well..

Even though Velez isn’t in very good holding with many fans, but I absolutely hate him. Otherwise I’d probably say Ishikawa. After his seasons I can’t see him doing anything.

for myself, I thought a lot of people were fooling themselves wanting Ochoa up, but now everyone else’s opinion seems in line with mine.

That just leaves Nate Schieholtz.

by oldjacket on Sep 25, 2008 8:36 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

the reason I wanted Ochoa up was that he was the AAA starting SS that was to replace Vizquel for only a couple of weeks so no need to burn up option on Bocock or Burriss

by wilriv21 on Sep 25, 2008 8:37 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I understand that sentiment, but I never worried about rushing Burriss or Bocock, because I didn’t think they were real prospects.

I don’t mind him as utility guy, but I remember some in the minor lines posts opining that he might be able to put up a good OBP in the majors.

by oldjacket on Sep 25, 2008 8:41 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree at least about Bocock. He has ML caliber defense. And that’s the only reason Vizquel even still is employed. Neither can hit, so we weren’t losing out on anything. The consensus on Bocock all along was that if he could ever hit, he might be a decent player, but if he can’t he’ll probably still be a bench player somewhere because of his glove.

Burriss I think was different, he actually has some potential, and frankly I’m surprised that he was able to stick in the Majors with such little experience. His defense was a lot better than I expected too, even though he had good reports on his abilities.
