Pick your playoff teams
Its about this time every year (for the last 4, anyway) that I live up to my monikor and I pick a team from each league whom I will root for in the playoffs.
Last year, it was the Rockies and the Indians. I picked up on the Rockies mid-surge and rode that wave all the way into the green monster.
In 2004 I happed to visit Boston in August and got completely swept up in the RSN. I even bought a damn hat... As much as I hate the damn Red Sox now, watching them upset the Yankees in that historic ALCS was one of my favorite baseball experiences.
Because frankly, My hatred for the Red Sox is fairly new compared to that I hold for the Yankees.
But I digress. Pick your teams, and maybe explain a little why. I'm going with the Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays and your Philadelphia Pedro Pheliz'es.
I'm totally jumping on the Dr's bandwagon, but I've secretly liked the philles for a few years and Pete's addition to the team only made that bond stronger. I'd love to see them in the series (especially when the alternative is the Cubs or Dodgers).
Let's hear it.

I’m pulling for whoever is playing the Dodgers in the first round. When and if the Dodgers are eliminated, then I’ll figure something else out. Probably the Rays or Brewers, if those teams are still around by then.
Pretty much the same with me. Maybe a little love for the Twins if they make it in.

Go Rays!
I almost always root for the NL team, but this year may be different if those teams are the Evils, Phils, Cubs and possibly the Mets. I hate all of those teams. I don’t want the Cubs because I prefer that cursed teams stay that way (except for the Giants, of course.) If you thought the howling was bad from the Red Sox fans after their curse was lifted, wait until the Cubs get off the schneid.
Anyway. I hope the Brewers make it. I’d like to root for CC, Hart, Braun, Hardy and Ray Ray.
In the AL, it’s all about the Rays. They’re the only team in the league who hasn’t won a WS in the past few years. I hate the Red Sox, Angels and White Sox. Screw ’em. Go Rays.
And I did predict them to finish ahead of the Yanks, fwiw.

well, some things have changed. I don’t hate the Twins all that much. I’d certainly choose them over the Red Socks or Angels, but not the Rays. They’d be my 2nd AL choice.

Gotta be the Rays, even though I know we’re going to hate and despise them within a few years. The Atlanta Braves were cute and cuddly once too.
yeah, but the Rays won’t smash our hopes and dreams in a 103 win season.

Call me negative but I mainly root against teams when the giants arent involved. Dodgers first and foremost, of course. I also want to see the Angels go down hard – but it has as much to do with the fact that they’re one of the luckiest teams (11 wins above pythagorean expectation, which probably makes them the worst of the AL playoff teams) in recent memory as it does with their theft of our championship in 02. I don’t like either Sox team and I don’t much care for the Mets either, although I’d definitely cheer them on in the Series against any of those AL teams I mentioned.
"he walked 18; new league record! Struck out 18, another new league record! He also hit the sportswriter, the PA announcer, the bull mascot twice..."
went back and checked, and the angels are actually 13 wins above expectation, which is tied with the 04 Yankees for the most in the last two decades. Incidentally, the Diamondbacks have played way above their means in recent years – not only did they have no business winning the division or even being in the race last season, but in 2005 they were the worst team in the National League according to run diff despite finishing 3rd in the West and running ahead of us for most of the year.

I generally root for teams
that have never won a WS. So this year it has to be Brewers and Rays. After non-WS winners, i go with teams with the longest drought; the Cubs are exempt though because I will never, ever root for them. I have no love for the Phils, Mets, or, of course, the Dodgers. I like the Red Sox because I went to school in Boston. I hated the city, the Bruins, the Patriots, and especially the Celtics, but for some reason I liked the Sox. In spite of that, I will root for the Twins over the Sox; I just hope they get in.
Rooting order:
Brewers
Rays
Twins
Red Sox
Angels
Phillies
The rest I will just be rooting against.
Greetings, Marklar! I am Marklar! This is Marklar.
RAYS baby
after that it’s kinda hard. I actually think it would be cool to see the Cubs break the curse. I know a lot of people feel differently, but I think that kind of thing is cool. I thought it was fun to see the Sox (both of them) end their droughts, and now it would be nice to see the Cubs do it. Plus it’s been 100 years since their last win, so it would be kind of fitting. But I love that the Rays are in and I want to see them do well. Hate the Halos, the Dodgers, the White Sox, and I’m sick of the Red Sox.
I honestly don’t mind the Mets, and I for some reason I’m rooting for them above the Phillies, can’t say why. I’d like to see the Brewers in though. But yeah, I’ll root for the Mets a little bit I guess, depending on who they play.
Ok so Rays and Cubs I guess are my teams.

Last time the Cubs won it took Merkle's Boner to get them there.
If they do win it all this time how will Selig suddenly shifting 3 games out of Houston to a de facto home sight not be viewed in the same light thus renewing the curse for another 100 years?
I am fast beginning to hate Selig as much as the inbred Steinbrenner clan. Something I never would have thought was humanly possible.

The Brewers are my second NL team so my decision is made easily there. I predicted the Rays would win the AL East in 2009—the prediction was made in 2004. So I’m a year off. So sue me.
Anyway, Brewers/Rays World Series 4 LYFE. In part to watch ESPN shit itself going, “how are we supposed to market this when there is no Red Sox?!”

ESPN is already
having a fit that the Yankees aren’t even in the playoffs. I don’t know how many times I heard ESPN announcers say. “It will a shame if the Yankees don’t make the playoffs in the final year of Yankee Stadium”. Somehow that possibility didn’t bother me at all.

You mean you don’t care about an old, piece of crap stadium on the other side of the country?
I watched a little of the final game. I tried to be interested and failed.
Easy not to be interested in the game
But to deny the undeniable history of Yankee Stadium is to say you’re not much of a fan of baseball’s rich history.
You mean you don’t care about an old, piece of crap stadium on the other side of the country?
Pretty narrowminded viewpoint.
This may be hard to believe , but baseball that happened more than ten years ago – and in another part of the country – actually happened.
Think what you like about the Yankees’ blatant mockery of a salary cap , but their historical numbers aren’t cooked – they really did win all those championships.

My order:
Not Dodgers
Brewers
Not Dodgers
Not Angels
Rays
Not Dodgers
Not Cubs
Not Phillies
So…I’d like the NL to win over the AL in principle, but really only the Brewers would fit the bill – I don’t like the mets, I don’t like the phillies, and I don’t like the cubs. I also don’t like some team down south that wears blue.

The good thing
about “Dodgers or Angels” is we get to see two LA teams eliminated from the playoffs.
Greetings, Marklar! I am Marklar! This is Marklar.
Not usually interested in the playoffs but this year may be different
Well I started by saying the teams I wouldn’t want to win, but that ended up longer, so here’s the teams I don’t mind:
Rays
Brewers
Cubbies
The Angels piss me off for obvious reasons. I can’t forgive the Twins for the dead horse. The Phillies just don’t rub me the right way. Everyone else I dislike for obvious reasons.

Make Fox’s head a splode:
1. Brewers
2. Rays
I would be ok with:
3. Phillies: NL team, not from NY or Boston, no stupid “curse” to latch onto
4. Twins: no problems here
When I start losing interest:
5. White Sox: though it would be interesting after all of this Cubs hype
6. Angels: rather not see them win, but given the alternatives…

What does that leave me? Rays, Chisox/Twins, D-backs, Phillies, Brewers?
Oh, who am I kidding, I won’t pay attention at all. I guess Brewers/Rays would be the least vomit inducing.
If the Cubbies win, doesn’t that give the Giants the longest WS victory drought? So, in terms of the patheticness account I could go for that. But would Cub fans become as insufferable as Red Sox Nation? Could such a thing be possible?

The Giants have drained most of my life blood (once again)
I don’t really have the emotional surplus to get very excited about the playoffs.
Mainly, I want to see the Dodgers & Angels eliminated. After that, I’d like to see the Mets eliminated.
Normally, I’d be rooting for the Red Sox (everyone please resist the temptation to jump all over me). I was born there, and I’ve adopted them as a backup team. I don’t know any annoying Red Socks fans; and I know I’m not one. However, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Rays in the Series (for variety and because of their history).
I also wouldn’t mind seeing the Cubs go to the Series and win – just in case there’s some sort of cosmic plan that requires the longest droughts to end first…
Other than that, I don’t really care about the other playoff teams.

If the Brewers don’t make it, probably Rays but I won’t really pay attention.
