Rotoworld >:(
"Bowker is clearly a better bet than Travis Ishikawa for the long term, but the start tonight was just his third since he was recalled on Sept. 2."
How is that even remotely true? I mean, there are legitimate arguments for both of them, but in what world is Bowker clearly a better bet than Ishikawa? Why does Rotoworld always talk out their ass like this? Why isn't there a way to preview fanshots so you know whether or not you're doing this right?

Whyyyyyy!?
I wouldn’t say he’s “clearly” better. It’s probably a toss-up between the two.
Q: If you had to take one, who would you take? Bowker might have more flexibility, he can play OF and 1B (I use that term loosely).

I do prefer Ishikawa, though it certainly could go either way. It’s just… Bowker is clearly better, based on what? His worse major league performance to date? His minor league OPS, which is something like .010 higher than Travis’s? Travis has had a couple seasons in the minors that are better than anything Bowker’s come close to putting up (2005 in San Jose, this year in Fresno), but he’s also had a few seasons that are way worse than anything Bowker’s come close to putting up (last year in particular, though I know he was okay in SJ.) Hell, if you’re going to go by scouting, I’m pretty sure Ishikawa has always been the more highly touted player.
Anyway, I would say I prefer Ishikawa because I think his overall package of secondary skills (OBP, power, etc) is a bit better than Bowker’s, but like you said, it’s a toss-up.

Yeah, I think Ishikawa might have Bowker at defense at 1B, too. But, Bowker could get better, I don’t know. Bowker was a 5 in +/ at 1B this year.

Obviously Bowker is still learning, but he made his share of boneheaded plays at first this year. Then again, I can remember a few from Travis too. But Travis has always had the “GOLD GLOVE FIRST BASEMAN” moniker connected to him, hasn’t he?

Gold gloves
Only slightly less hard than Iron gloves, but much heavier.

Yeah, i thought the same thing when i read it. You could make an argument for either player being the better bet long term. But to say that either is clearly a better bet is asinine, they’ve both around the same level. It’s pretty standard fare for Rotoworld though, where logic is replaced in favour of vitriol.

The best pro Bowker arguments I can think of is he was playing out of position and learning the MLB on the fly. That does add an extra level of difficulty to things. With 322 Ab’s he is getting out of small sample size territory. So it might worth noting he is tied for 3rd in hr’s on the squad. He has 77extra bases ( doubles, triples & Hrs) . Aurilia 85 with about only 80 more P.A.s.
Personally I don’t really think it clear cut. Fun fact I stumbled upon – How has Rowand not hit a triple this season?

It is hard to get all the way to 3rd base when you have to stop and dive head first into every bag.

Aren’t the new poly fibers wonderful? Any fabric hit with something that hard 20 years ago would have ripped.

I think Rotoworld does its player evaluations by watching the computer play itself using custom rosters in MVP 05.

Note: I would have logged in as Brian Sabean to post this, which would have made it much funnier. But I can’t remember the password for that account. I won it in some contest ages ago. sigh

MVP 05 is too next gen for Sabean
He’s probably doing RBI Baseball. Or Ken Griffey JR’s SNES video game that has nothing but fake players outside of JR. Too bad Sabean doesn’t know that and is in constant search of a former White Sox player named “Slugger Magoo”

I'll take Ishi
Bowker isn’t bad really, but I never really see him turning into the type of hitter we’d ever want to play on a daily basis (unless we loaded up our other positions with above average players).
He’s certainly a safer bet than Ishikawa, but Ishikawa has greater upside IMO since he has the ability to take a good share of walks

Well, I’ll say this. Bowker is BY FAR the grittier player.

I think Ishikawa is the better bet at this point. Bowker’s never had a season as good as what Ishikiawa’s done this year, plus he’s generally had better scouting reports.
