Who has the brighter relief future?

I have no clue regarding the possable careers for the following relievers. Sergio Romo, Geno Espineli, Alex Hinshaw, and Osiris Matos. I know that Romo has the better control. I think that Hinshaw had ther best minor league stats though, but I'm not sure. So, who do you think has the best future. Maybe suggest if any that I mentioned have a possable future in the SP role

The best career ERA and longest career would be nice to know too

Personally, I like Hinshaw and Romo the most. Not too big on Espineli, and Matos is slightly better, IMO.

Less arm, more talk. Raisingcain is a GAMER.

Conventional wisdom probably puts them in this order, from best to worst: Romo, Hinshaw, Matos, Espineli.

I agree

Hinshaw’s lefty status and platoon issues really limit his upside. True, a lefty with a good fastball can stick around long past their expiration date, but it’s difficult for even quality southpaws to lose the platoon label.

ROMO.

I think he and Hinshaw will become a fantastic set-up combo. But Romo is the more complete pitcher at this point. Also, I love him. ♥____♥

Hey I loved Sergio first! FIGHT

Actually, Lisa Winston has us both beat. She was telling me how great Romo is at the AFL last November.

"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

There amass been plenty of articles written this spring about the stud shortstop Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum , as well as the fluid young outfielders and thirteen basemen Kevin Frandsen.

Romo will be a very good reliever, Hinshaw and Matos will be at least good enough to stick, and Espineli will, in a few years, be as forgotten as such former relievers as Doug Creek, Chris Hook, and Enrique Burgos.

Why Espineli over Matos? I’m not an expert on either, but at a glance, Matos has better numbers than Espineli in the majors and the minors, and is also two years younger.

Stirrups ftw.

Jcb, I think it’s a toss up between Geno and Matos. I went with Geno because he’s a lefty and could find a nice niche as a LOOGY.

Esineli’s looked horrible every time I’ve seen him pitch, so that’s probably not helping my opinion of him.

the lefty thing that Geno has going for him is the only thing he has going for him. He’s tough on lefties, but but righties just kill him. You can’t be a situational lefty if you’re a middle relief guy, and that’s all he could ever be. You can’t use him late in the game because the other team will just pinch hit for the lefty and Geno won’t be able to get him out.

Not as long as the Denker bus, but for a while.

Romo's clearly the best.

Romo has the stamina to be a starter, and was successful in the minors at it (he was the primary pitcher in a no-hitter in Augusta). His fastball is not overwhelming, but his arm angles are quite deceptive and he has a good slider, change and control.

Hinshaw is tantalizing, when is control is good. He isn’t just a platoon pitcher, but becomes one if his control gets iffy….which is a major issue for him (61 walks in 69 2/3 innings in San Jose in 2006). He has real strikeout stuff when in control.

I do like Espineli more than Matos. Espineli went from relieving to starting in the minors, and is flexible enough to do it when needed. Espineli comes off as a platooner because his throwing motion is a very rough angle for lefties, almost starting from behind them. Right-handers, however, will always have an advantage. I don’t think his future is as bleak as some say, but he won’t be an All-Star. He doesn’t have the high potential, but he’s more likely to accomplish it.

Matos is the other way around. He has high potential, but I don’t have as much faith in him reaching it. He could be a solid setup man, but has a lot of issues with consistency. I’d put him at last.

Matos can at least throw in the nineties. Espineli has zero stuff, he just has the deceptive style against lefties. Matos is also two years younger. I put Matos way ahead of Espineli. I would be surprised if Espineli is even in the organization next year.

I hope Hinshaw turns into a decent reliver. Nice stuff and all…

It’s just that I have had enough of guys who refuse to throw strikes. We’ve seen these types of pitchers for quite some time now. Throw strikes!
