SS Solution?
Not really much of a solution, but more of an expirement; We try and trade for former top regaurded A's prospect Bobby Crosby. The price will be VERY cheap and will never be lower. Now before you jump all over my ass for saying we should trade for a .250 hitter what else do you suppose? Burris is at 2nd base, and the only other option is Ivan Ochoa, Also Crosby plays stellar D WHEN healthy. If they ask for a lot just forget it but i think that he could come real cheap with the emergence of Cliff Pennington. Just saying.

Burris..
Is not at 2nd place. He is “the 2009 starting shorstop.”

i’m pretty sure if we took on his contract he’d be free, that said i wouldn’t even want him for the $5.25MM he costs next year
by TimLincecumIsGod on Sep 20, 2008 7:40 PM PDT 0 recs
I agree with this statement
The A’s would likely be happy to dump his salary regardless of the “return”. However, since he will not actually be worth the money he is going to be paid next year, it would hardly behoove anyone to take him on.
Other than being a shortstop, Crosby is Pedro Feliz without the power or defense.

I'm serious
Their hitting approaches are the same. Take a fastball down the middle, then swing at two sliders a foot off the plate, then look surprised as if they hadn’t already done this twice earlier in the game.

I know
I just get a kick out of saying sarcastic, asinine things about Bobby Crosby’s playing ability.
It’s a coping mechanism.

Burriss and Ochoa aren’t the only options at 2B. There’s also Frandsen, Velez, and some guy named Denker who I think might still be in our system.
And if you want a infielder from the A’s, Mark Ellis is a free agent and is better than Bobby Crosby.

Don’t forget Ray Durham!! He’s a FA after this season and Brian Sabean is just stupid enough to re-sign him. You want another longshot?? Jeff Kent. Brian Sabean said his biggest regret was allowing Kent to leave as a free agent. (we all know what his biggest regret SHOULD have been) Then they put his picture on the wall in the outfield. I could see Sabean bringing back the future hall of famer so that people would remember him as a Giant. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating this. These are my fears.

Bobby Crosby is a piece of shit. He is a horrible baseball player.

Yeah
Most A’s fans would be celebrating madly if the Giants take on Crosby’s $5.25M salary for 2009.

This might be worse than my fanpost....
maybe…
Crosby, 2006-2008 (YTD)
.229/.298/.338
.226/.278/.341
.242/.300/.355
His Fielding Bible Plus/Minus stats:
2006: 828 innings, -8, rank 23rd (in all of baseball)
2007: 813 2/3 innings, +2, rank 17th
2008: 1205.0 innings (so far), -12, rank 26th
Burriss probably won’t be worse than Crosby’s expected production next season, or if it is worse, not a difference of ~$5M more.

I think they're both pretty much replacement level (I am not a Burriss fan),
but at least Burriss is earning replacement level wages and has some semblance of upside.

Burriss may simply need to give up switch hitting and hit LH exclusively.

How about
Maicer Izturis? He’s had a solid few years; his only downside is hammy issues that he seems to have all but worked out. The Angels are going into 2009 with three shortstops, so one of ’em’s likely to go—and he’d come cheaply.

Injury prone, not particularly good shortstops aren’t something I want on this team. Nothin’ personal, Mr. Crosby.
