I like Sergio Romo. Other than Cain or Lincecum, he's the most entertaining pitcher on the Giants. If Brian Wilson could throw more strikes, he'd be in the discussion.
The Giants might have a very nice relief situation in the future. They'll have their best reliever actually come in when he's needed -- bottom of the seventh, say, with the bases loaded -- while the closer will be the second-best reliever, coming in to face the ninth inning even if it's a three-run lead and the 7-8-9 hitters are coming up.
Crazy talk? Too soon for such lofty proclamations? Maybe. But I've always envied teams like the '07 Indians who accidentally fell into sensible bullpen usage, and I think there's a strong chance the Giants will do the same.

I like Romo as well. I like his enthusiasm, and his frisbee slider is filthy. With the return of Valdez, the late innings relief crew will actually look pretty solid. If Hinshaw can somehow cut down on the walks, it’ll be even better.

Romo has been a very pleasant surprise
I feared he just didn’t have the velocity to compete, but he throws just hard enough to keep hitters honest, and his control and offspeed stuff have been just as good as advertised. I don’t think he is the best reliever on the team, but for a guy whom I wrote off despite his gaudy stats in A ball, he’s been awful darn good. Hinshaw, similarly, though he needs to get full innings and needs to go back to his lower walk rates from earlier this year.
Wilson isn’t bad himself, though he does fall in love with the four-seamer.

I couldn’t agree more. Use the quietly awesome guy during the high-pressure situations, and use the fan favorite who throws 100 mph during the 3 run leads in the 9th.
I’m pretty confident that this whole bullpen thing can sort itself out.

Where my Romosexuals at?
Love Romo, his breaking stuff is fantastic and it’s so nice to have a relief pitcher who throws strikes. Still boggles my mind that they chose to send him down earlier in the year. Not even the accidental DFA thing, just the fact that they were sending him down in the first place.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

Uh-oh Sergio
With Romo locking down the opponent late in games SF can then move Merkin Valdez to the rotation.

I know, I know…
We’ll have a 6 man rotation [Cain, Lincecum, Lowry, Sanchez, Valdez, Zito] where every starting pitcher goes 8 innings, then a set up guy, and a closer.

a 7 man rotation? Okay. Each pitcher gets a day. Ummm Zito’s got to be Thursdays, it’s often an off day anyways. Cain on Saturday so for those wonderful 1pm games we don’t have to watch him get no run support. Timmy gets Sundays, for obvious reasons.

You know, we’ve really had some great surprises this year. It’s easy to overlook Romo, but he’s one ‘em. I’m really encouraged that he’s maintained a high strikeout rate.

Hinshaw is fun to watch also...
if he didn’t walk someone every time he comes in haha

Hinshaw
If he can get a handle of his control, can be very very filthy.
46 k’s in 38 IP is pretty wicked.
Wicked awesome, even.

Don't listen to the liberal media.
The Surge is working!
Did he have a bit of a gopherball problem in the minors?

As Sergio's adoptive dad
…I can honestly say that I’m not surprised. I remember the lazy summer days of his T-ball years, then his domination of high school baseball….well, anyway, I’ve known he was special for a long time. Me and the Mrs. still get the occasional phone call or email, but now that he’s established in the bigs, I’m thinking more like an occasional vacation or new car. Yep, adoption can really pay off is so emotionally rewarding!
your 2008 SF Giants: this isn’t totally insane, just really stupid

I’m actually mildly optimistic about the prospects of a bullpen built around Wilson, Valdez, Romo, Matos, and maybe Hinshaw. It wouldn’t be perfect, but it’s a decent foundation to build around.
What man? Which man? Who’s the man? When’s a man a man? What makes a man a man? Am I a man? Yes. Technically I am. - FotC
