Open Gameday Thread, 9/20
San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Dodgers
There's maybe a 20% or 25% chance that the Giants win both of the remaining games of the series. In order for that to be super-extra memorable for us, though, the Diamondbacks have to win their freaking games. C'mon, Arizona.

Thus far, I’m having the world’s shittiest weekend. We spent half the night in the emergency room at Chidlren’s Hospital Oakland because our 2-year old had croup. He seems to be fine now, but anyway, it was pretty awful.
To make up for all that, the Giants need to win 372-0 today, and we have to have the best gameday thread of all time. Okay? Thanks.

I'd agree with that.
Perhaps people aren’t getting as sick (ok, aren’t dying as much? Because dead is about as sick as you can get), but people are getting sick more. Too much sanitation has it’s drawbacks.

Antibiotic resistant bacteria are definitely become a problem (as mentioned above, my son was hospitalized earlier this year for a MRSA infection – he didn’t have the life threatening kind, but it’s still nasty stuff). I’ve also seen the theory that the recent increase in allergies is related to, as you put it, too much sanitation.
I almost never get sick, myself. I do have a lot of allergies, though.

My theory is this
If you get rid of the weaker germs you’ll never be able to fight the strong ones. I was exposed to all kinds of things when I was younger(fish guts, manure, some other stuff that was probably "bad) and never got anything major, and I am one of the least susceptible at my school now. Now, I know this isn’t true for all people, but I’m living proof that exposure can be good. And no, I don’t have a superiority complex as it might seem. I sympathize and understand some people are just born natural disease catchers.
Hope your son gets better.

It’s well documented that folks who’re raised around livestock almost never develop allergies, at the very least.

Yeah, he was cranky this morning, but he’s definitely better off than the two of us.
This is the fourth time he’s been to the hospital: he went in for jaundice when he was 4 days old, for RSV (similar to pneumonia) when he was about 9 months), and for an MRSA infection when he was about 1 1/2.
I’ve only had to go to the hospital twice in my life! Both emergency room visits when I just needed to get a few stitches. Kid’s barely two and he’s already doubled my total!
None of them, fortunately, were life threatening situations or anything. So there’s that.
