Offseason
This offseason should be very exciting and all I reall want to see done are 2 moves: Sanchez for Davis, therefore giving us a stud young 1st baseman, dont give me the Villonava argument, he is 17 years old. How much can you want from one kid? If he devolps then great, then we have 2 of the best young and upcoming 1st baseman in the game. (This is a Good thing) We could also just put Big V in the OF if necessary. He figures to be ready in about 4 years, when Rowands contract is up.
Second, and final move, sign Rafael Furcal to a very lucrative 4 yr/ 55 million dollar deal. We have no legitate Middle infield prospects (This means that Ochoa, Burris, Velez, and Denker are not real prospects) Its time we face reality, these guys have very low cielings and cant really amount to much. Thus leaving us with a projected lineup in 2011 with
C- Posey 1st- Davis 2nd- One of the attempts that we cal a "prospect" SS- Furcal 3rd base- Sandavol (assuming he can handle it, which i think he could) OF Lewis, Schierholtz, Rowand and a staff with Lincecum, Cain, Burgmarger, Alderson, Some guy named Zito.
The roster looks pretty legitmate with maybe a whole in the OF lacking some power and possibly a 2nd baseman but that can be solved in coming years if Frandsen doesnt work out. I know this is a long way away and very hard to accomplish but if done we could maybe just maybe bring SF its first ever World series. (From the Giants)

We don't exactly have a plethora of major league ready starting pitchers
At least good ones, so I don’t know if I would be trading Sanchez right now.

save sanchez, use him in the rotation next year, trade him at the deadline next year, up his value, bring back a prospect, sanch hasn’t peaked in value yet and we are not in a hurry to trade him

Only 2? I’d say he’d spend the majority of a four year contract hurt or subpar because of a prior injury. Aging SS with back problems… no thanks.

LOUD NOISES!!!
CAN WE JUST STOP TALKING ABOUT SIGNING FURCAL!? I have gotten tired of reminding everyone that he is always hurt, and when he’s not, he hasn’t shown anything to prove he is worth $10 million per year.
No offense, but this is a pretty ridiculous post. I think there’s a good chance Big V will be up before 4 years, and don’t kid yourself, there’s no way he’ll be able to play OF. I think it’s pretty safe to say he can be penned for 1B. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to acquire through trade or FA a 1B, but I think 3B would be much more beneficial, as Pablo can play 1st much better and longer than 3rd (and Bowker is also available). There are no viable 3B prospects in the system.
Trading Sanchez at this point wouldn’t be a great idea unless a young stud infielder could be acquired in return. If a good hitter can be had, it could make up for the gap in the pitching depth with the loss of Sanchez, but don’t trade him just for the sake of getting any hitter. I would be much more comfortable with waiting until MadBum and TimA make it closer to the bigs…then, there will be a surplus of pitching and it will be reasonable to trade Sanchez or someone else.

I don’t think the potential of getting Furcal is in the same category as “Schierholtz at 3rd”. Because you’’ve “gotten tired” of it is not enough of a reason for the subject to become off limits.
Like him or not, he’s a plus player at a position of need in this organization.

this is my Nate-at-3rd, yes.
I would argue that he’s a plus player (albeit, it is a positional need on this team, but not worth $10 million + per). Career stat line:
.287/.352/.412 12 HR, 59 RBI
That is not the line of a difference maker. That’s Rich Aurilia-like for almost all his stats. Would you be willing to pay at least $10 million for an average Aurilia year? That’s not even taking into consideration that he’ll probably only play 2 out of 4 years because he’s hurt so often. It says something when you type “Rafael Furcal” into Google, and the first auto-fill search that comes up is “Rafael Furcal injury”.
I guess people can talk about it if they want, I’ll just keep reminding them that it’s a ridiculous suggestion.

If you’re going to go after a SS, Furcal is not the one to go after. JJ Hardy would be a much better target, younger & more durable. I’d think that Sanchez for Hardy might be a fair trade.

He’s not “always hurt.” He’s been hurt this year, but before that he’s played 138 games, 159, 154, 143, 156, 154 (going backward).
The back problem is a huge red flag, but it’s also an opportunity, since no one is going to give him the huge contract his talent deserves. I’d be happy to give him a bunch of money for one or two years, if we can’t acquire a good young shortstop (and we probably can’t). More than two years is probably a poor risk.

would it really be buying low, though?
Even, say, if somehow he agreed to a 2 year contract, wouldn’t it cost at least $10-15 per year? I fail to see how that’s buying low. And, by the reasoning of most on this blog, he won’t be part of the next great Giants team, so why spend the money on him when it could be spent elsewhere on someone that could be had for the long haul?
You’re right, most of his career he’s played more games than I thought he had. Most of those seem to be in Atlanta, though. Recently he’s been hurt quite often, though. And I also fail to see how it would be reasonable to pay a lifetime .287/.352/.412 12 HR, 59 RBI hitter at least $10 million (which, to my understanding, is what it would cost to get him).

If he stays healthy and plays at his career averages? Three or four.
Which isn’t going to get the Giants into the playoffs unless they’re very lucky in other areas. But what’s the alternative? Ochoa would also be a stopgap. Burriss might evolve into a solid shortstop, but (a) he really needs more time in the minors, and (b) the Giants seem to see him as a second baseman anyway.

the alternative
would be to start Burris/Ochoa, and take the money to upgrade at a different position, say 3B or 1B.

No and No
Sanchez was brilliant in the first half of the season. I think he wasn’t used to pitching as much as he did this year and got tired after the ASG. I agree with CP Giant756 and UnleashTheGore that Sanchez’s value will be higher next year. I was ready to see him traded last year, but seeing how much he progressed this year, trading him now seems like a mistake.
Furcal – do not want. Way to injury-prone, and too expensive for what you’d get.

Yeah,
If he came here, spent most of his time on the DL, and swung a weinie bat when he played, that Dodger smell would make it even worse. On the other hand if we got Russell Martin to play 3B, I think I could live with the Dodger smell until it wore off.

He will be up by 2010 opening day not four years from now maybe 2 or 3. Thats being said u want to overpay another crappy player with a history of injuries? ya good 1 2 for 2. BURRIS WAS OUR 2nd round pick in 2006 and we gave him a million in signing bonus! Speaking of 'get it right'
As Natto called it, you’re wrong on his age.
Burriss was not a 2nd rounder; he was a sandwich round player, which under the scheme of the time, that is a first round pick.
Boras was only a semi-agent for Villalona, and wasn’t included in the paperwork for his signing (and Boras, true to form, threatened a law suit over it.) It seems Boras was more the agent for the Buscone, than Villalona. And this should be a caution to you: agent/player interactions area different animal with dominican IFA’s than with American draftees.
2010 opening day is extremely optimistic. They likely let him spend the whole year at SJ next year (unless he just rakes the hell out of the ball). Then AA the next, with a possible callup if he’s raking. And attempted evidence of signing bonuses and how fast one reaches the majors has little to it (you have to compare IFA’s to other IFA’s on time to the majors, btw). And even with Burriss, he wasn’t called up because of his bonus, he was called up because the Giants were silly thin at SS, and to everyone’s surprise, he’s stuck.
And by the way, you’re grammar and writing style is awful. This isn’t a text message, and this isn’t tmz.com, so don’t be a english deficient douchebag.
