Double A musicial chairs....

as the Marlins move from Carolina to Jacksonville and the Dodgers move from Jacksonville to Chattanooga replacing the Reds.  Brewers stay in Huntsville.  Trenton and Yankee are likely to renew.  That leaves the Reds looking for a new home; which will either be Carolina or perhaps CT with the Giants (Defenders)  then becoming MudCats.

So where would you like to be?  Southern League or the Eastern League or anywhere but Dodd?

Do the defenders even want us?

I am not sure that the defenders would be all too thrilled to renew with us. It seems as though the relationship is contentious on both sides. That said, we already have one minor league team in the South East (Augusta), why not two? The only reason i can think of for staying with the Defenders is if we have a shorter contract (till 2010 or so) with an understanding that we want to move to the Texas league.

However aren’t minor league affiliation contracts 2 years?

There is word that is a defenders / norwich / giants problem—that is, the defenders are also very irritated with Norwich, such there has been consideration on sites covering the minor league franchises that the defenders might want out, whether or not the giants are involved. We’ll see.

CT or NC?

I know which one MadBum is rooting for.

Thanks for the update. I like the idea of the Southern League, as the weather would probably be better in April in May than in Connecticut.

FWIW, the Dodgers are coming back to Albuquerque.

Really?

Damn…honestly, I liked having the Dogs in Vegas. I wonder who’ll take over the Ol’ Stars.

vegas is open. they’ve been trying to get a new park for years. it’s too bad there aren’t any AA leagues anywhere nearby; the giants have a big following in reno, it’d be nice to see them take over nevada completely.

Could be the Blue Jays or Nationals

After the AAA musical chairs (based on various reports around mlb.com and milb.com):

Indians: Buffalo to Columbus
Mets: New Orleans to Buffalo
Marlins: Albuquerque to New Orleans
Dodgers: Las Vegas to Albuquerque

Since the Nationals were with Columbus, it could be them by default, unless they can successfully take Syracuse away from the Blue Jays. Either way, some team’s going to be left with a long commute to AAA.

I thought that the Marlins were taking Vegas, but Marlins in NO and Nats is probably as likely.

I'd say put it in..

the Dodgers change the Chattanooga Lookouts’ name or wacky logo, then they are an even more evil entity than we all realize.

More evil? Metaphysically, how is that possible? if LA was playing All Queda, I’d be rooting for the latter.

Jonathan Sanchez. He's left-handed, like Barry Zito. His fastball breaks 80, unlike Zito.

Great. How long tell my hand starts trying to strangle things on its own?

Of coarse this is a Dodgers week end so this might be useful…

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s only going to try to strangle one thing on its own, anyway, and I can’t imagine that being a problem for you.

Take the bat. Swing three times. Strike three and you’re out.

There amass been plenty of articles written this spring about the stud shortstop Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum , as well as the fluid young outfielders and thirteen basemen Kevin Frandsen.

Where would DiBella move the team? Is there a rumored target destination?

Richmond really wants a minor league team to replace the Triple A team...

they just lost. Reading the Richmond newspaper most of the articles there mention Erie or CT as possible replacements since Double A is the best they can do for now. Ballparkdigest.com speculated on the various moves (the article is on my blog dated 8/25) that would have to happen and it was quickly shot down locally (check out Joe Perez’s blog).
I think a deal will happen next year and the Giants return to Dodd in ‘09 (the Reds stay in the Southern League and become MudCats) and depart in ’10 since Lou has an out clause for after the ’09 season. This is just me guessing, no facts to back it up or inside info I’m not sharing.

Defenders

This has been a deal made in Hell for all three parties, namely the Giants, the Defs, and the city. And all three share equal blame.

living in New York, I want the Giants to stay in Norwich. If it’s true that Alderson and Mad Bum are AA bound, I’m going to get up there for a few games. Looks like it’s not going to happen though.

New York area

I think there’s a lot to be said for looking in the NY area if you are trying to build and maintain a national brand name. That cute Newark stadium is being wasted on the independent league and they’d get brownie points for getting greener if they could figure out a way to move there since it’s well-served by mass transit. The downside is that the cost of living would be higher for the players, who aren’t paid much. But the Eastern League is a pretty good one in terms of level of competition.

They’ve been complaining about the teams in Connecticut, right? It would be fun to bail on them just when MB and TA are coming.

by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on Sep 20, 2008 3:53 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I want them to stay put too – because my mother-in-law lives very close to Norwich, so I get to go to games every now and then. But oh well.
