yeah, that’s actually pretty much the opposite of what i’ve said to myself recently (during the bonds hr chase, during lincecum’s cy young ascendancy, etc…)

There Is A Big Difference
In the Giants case they were (are) chasing individual positive history which should not (and in my judgement did not) impact any positive team goals. In the Pirates case achieved negative team history which clearly impacted any positve team goals.
Now I know it is popular to beleive that keeping Barry delayed the rebuilding effort but this is just bull. Barry didn’t have any impact on rebuilding. There is no real reson why the Giants could not both keep Barry to chase the records and rebuild. In fact, that is what they did starting first with the pitching staff and now with the position players.
