In July, I was thinking that maybe the Giants should consider trading Wilson

Closers are not as hard to replace as one might think. Their value tends to be overrated. I was wondering what the Giants might’ve gotten from a contending team that was looking for a closer, had we made him available.

But I fear that Wilson’s trade value is now a-plummeting.

Why couldn't McCovey have hit the ball just three feet higher??

by daveinexile on Sep 10, 2008 3:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, there is the Sabean factor...

That’s another thing I’ve been thinking about. Giants are actually in good position to make some nice deals this winter. Then I think about who would be engineering those deals….

Despite the nice turnaround of the farm system—of course it did take Sabean more than 10 years to figure out that developing good position players was an important thing to do… anyway, despite the farm system turnaround, I still have no confidence that Sabean has the wherewithal to make the kind of moves still needed to get the Giants back into position for winning a World Series. I’d like to see him replaced this fall.

Why couldn't McCovey have hit the ball just three feet higher??

he’s had quite a few clutch hits this year. if he could only field…

I said before he reminded me of Eric Davis

Just smaller and with ADD in the field and on the bases and sort of in the batters box. He’s got a very fast bat and that means power.

Okay

So, we have now seen:

a triple play, a steal of home, and back-to-back Wilson blown-saves/Velez walk-offs. Who needs a winning record and talent? I know I’m satisfied.

Catcher are base running. Hitters are offense.
