Posey in the lineup at SK tonight

I had previously read something about how the plan was to let Buster chill after the AZ lg finished, but I see he is in the lineup at Salem Kaiser tonight.  I'm quite glad that they're getting him as many AB's as possible this season.  I honestly think they are doing this because they plan on him coming up at some point next year.  Anyway, just thought I'd give y'all a heads up!

just got back from the game

Not the most exciting of debuts for Posey, but he did show a nice arm and good release when he threw out a runner (on a pitchout). Unlike a lot of the short season guys, he looked very comfortable at the plate and seemed to have a good eye (2 walks, I think).
He was also witness to the highlight of the game when a teammate scored on a straight steal of home while he was at the plate.

Not bad

I thought Buster looked pretty good, nice throw to 2nd though the one he threw to 3rd would have had the guy pegged if he hadn’t bounced it. Most impressive play of the game was when Peguero threw a one hopper from medium deep right field and nailed the guy at home. Buster just had to catch the ball and drop the glove down to tag him out. Peguero has the best arm since McBryde that I’ve seen here.

Talked with Mike Ambort before the game and he said the elbow is fine when he throws but hurts when he swings the bat so he’s been shut down and the hope is that rest over the winter will allow time to heal and he can pick up in the spring.

speaking of Peguero...

I’ve been wanting to adopt him for some time, and I’ll take this opportunity to do it now.

I don’t know if he’s been so, but I checked around, and on the adopt post, and I don’t think anyone has.

Cool with y’all?

Good choice

But you may want to make some sacrifice to Jobu because his bat does not like the breaking ball.

Next Year?

Thats a little permature to even be thinking about. Maybe after next year (2010) he gets a September call up, but not in 2009. The only way i can see Posey in SF in 2009 is if he mashes with .600 avg, 30 homeruns, and like 80+ RBI’s throughout the minor league levels

by silentearth36 on Sep 1, 2008 10:24 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

But Posey can actually hit

So we’ll have no use for him next year.

Play a position we’re very thin at.

We’re set at catcher.

Were Bocock and Burriss drafted in the 2007 draft? …No they weren’t. They were drafted in 2006, meaning they have played atleast one full minor league season. Posey isn’t in the same situation as Bocock and Burriss

He'll be here in 2009

They want him to learn from Molina before Molina leaves via free agency.

Posey will make appearance for 2009 Giants...

With Sandoval mashing, it becomes less certain but I think he’ll be up at some point next year. Although he can play anywhere (he played all nine positions in one game last year as I’m sure you all know), the Giants want him as a catcher for good reason. A solid defensive catcher who bats in the middle of the order is so rare. He’s going to be better than McCann, Martin and Mauer when he gets his chance. I hate to say this because I like Bengie but I have a feeling he goes down next year trying to leg out a triple in May, making Sandoval the starter and Posey the backup. That way he can still learn from a sore Molina and get the occassional start when Sandoval needs a rest. Since he’s the future, we need Lincecum, Cain and Sanchez (maybe even Bumgarner and Alderson) to start building up a relationship with him and there’s no better time to start then next year.

I feel fairly confident in saying that they are never going to call Posey up to be a backup catcher.

Posey will be > Mauer?

wut?

Mauer is less than 2 years older than Posey and has posted wOBA+’s (love statcorner for those who haven’t checked it out yet) of 117, 105, and 114 these past 3 years? AAt Posey’s age right now, where he has taken a few PA for low A ball and rookie league, Mauer was already posting a 120 wOBA+ in 122 PA for the Twins.

Bah you're right

I misread posey as ‘85, probably because I didn’t think he’d be younger than me :(

point still stands though that at age 21 Mauer was already in the majors posting an excellent 100+ PA.
