It's a typo
He meant to write “fencepost”.
Like Barry Zito, I'm mildly half-OK.

I don’t mind 1 or 2 year deals for a 3B, SP or RP.
I’d like to see the org. still view next year as a “let’s see what we have” year. We still have a lot of kinda/sorta guys that may or may not be legit baseball players.

And the fact is I don’t think well of much what’s available for Inf. help.
Question, for me, is were do we stand of a possible Sanchez deal and do we trust Sabean & co. to get real value for him instead of a veteran retread or another flawed C.F.er?

I’m not opposed to trading Sanchez for value. It’d have to be a someone who’d be able to make an impact in the lineup.

Kind of in the same boat. If it the offer ( any ofer) does not fit not even think about it.
Only reason I am "picking" on Sanchez is I think a realistic return can be gotten from more teams for Sanchez then getting value offerings for out other two young guns.

I have serious doubts right now about the durability of Sanchez. This offseason may prove to be the best opportunity to trade him. I have this suspicion that his arm isn’t going to hold up for a full season. I don’t know that for a fact, but I do suspect he’s going to be a regular visitor of the DL throughout his career.

I have serious doubts about any pitchers durability. I am usually doubtful tell proven otherwise. But a franchise need 6-7 starters that can regularly get outs in a MLB game. Sanchez can do that. And it not like the Giants have not had success in the past with pitchers that really should not throw more then 100 -110 pitches a game probably 165-185 innings a season. Swift and Woody come to mind. As long as the team is not counting on Sanchez to be a #1 or #2 week in, month out I am more then fine with assuming the risk of keeping him.
I agree he could be reaching peak trade value inside the next year. The thing is Sanchez should also work real well as a late inning guy for a more set team. Presuming is arm does not get blown a part.
My prime motive is I think its much more likely Sabean can swing a good ( equable) trade with Sanchez then any of the Cain, Tim or Wilson. Sabean can get his 25 roster man ( or very near to it) for an inf position of need and possibly a bit more with a Sanchez trade. Moving the others should return a fair amount of minor leaguers and Sabean has shown almost Zero inclination for that kind of return in his years here.

No doubt
I waver a lot on the notion of trading Sanchez. On the one hand, I believe you’re right that he’s probably the best trading chip we’ve got right now. Moving him could get us something decent in return (and if there’s nothing good to be gotten for him, say ‘fudge it’ and move on). On the other hand, no Sanchez means a rotation of Tim/Cain/Zito/filler/filler. Current candidates include Correia (probably still in the rotation), Misch, Palmer, Hennessey, a rushed Sosa, or 5-10mil a year for another savvy vet pitcher.
I think I’d lean towards keeping Sanchez around longer.

All true.
But if the move is made in the off season the Giants should be in a good position to sing a middle of the pack starter to a 1-2 year contract. With the Latrine and Petco in this division it should be attractive to someone ( just out of a hat with out really looking at the FA list say a Fogg or Penny) trying to establish their worth for another contract.

What’s even funnier is that the next guy thinks that’s nuts – for the Red Sox! Apparently, Sandoval and Bumgarner “could be great,” but also “2 years away.”
I do like Kevin Youkilis. But I don’t like idiotic trades.

Youk is one of my favorite players, too. I just hate it when fans pull trades out of their ass. Particularly trades that make no sense for either team.

I love Youkilis but I’ve heard he’s not popular with his teammates. They think he’s selfish. He supposedly is happier when he does well and the team loses than if he does badly and they win.

I think you’re thinking about Manny.
Youk’s a real nice guy. Me and my gf met him last year.

Whether or not he is a nice guy, rx is probably right here. Who knows how things really are from afar….but when Manny and Youk had that run in earlier, word was (among Boston beat reports and those familiar with the Sox) that most of the Sox players were sick of Youk’s shit, as he seemed to be more concerned about personal performance, than team (thus his tantrums occuring at points that he failed his stats more than the team). Not to say he is a bad guy…but that was the word.

Youk seemed pretty chummy with his teammates during the NBA Playoffs and the Finals. I take what the media says with a grain of salt. My experience with him was great.
The guy is intense and I guess it rubs off the wrong way with some people. Who gives a shit about what people think about his attitude? As long as he produces for his team, that’s all that matters.
Gosh, most of the things I just said reminded me of BLB…

I remember pretty clearly reports earlier this year that his teammates were getting tired of his act (his act being throwing a hissy fit like the end of the world every single time he made an out). I haven’t heard anything about it since, but it was definitely, at least, a reported issue.

I like idiotic trades when the Giants are on the winning end. Which means that I, too, hate idiotic trades.

Hanley Ramirez for a decent pitcher and Burriss or Ochoa

Don't Trade Sanchez
His “value” is not as high as most Giants fans think. He’s shown flashes of brilliance but he’s pretty raw still, as evidenced by his control issues this season. And since he’s coming off an injury, unless he has an amazing September, he’s not going to bring the Giants much back. Plus, we need left-handed starters. We need two LHP between Lincecum and Cain and unless we want Zito in the rotation for another five years, holding onto Sanchez is a good idea. There is always a shortage on good, young LHP. Given how good some of the young guys have looked (in a brief stint), I’m fine staying put on the trade front. If we could sign a FA like Teixiera (won’t b/c Yanks will outbid), or more realistically, someone like Orlando Hudson, that would be a nice addition but trading pitching for .50 cents on the dollar to add four more wins next year is a short-sighted move. Stark's latest
Has a couple of Giants items (scroll down). He considers the Cain-for-Fielder idea, one that I’ve espoused before. After taking a look at Chris Dial’s OPD numbers, though, I’m not sure Prince is worth it. As for the Beltre idea, I don’t think he’s worth Sanchez, let alone Cain.
