Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

McClain, Hennessey, Holm called up | Extra Baggs

Yippie-ki-ay, Giants fans.

I'll drink up all the almost-average relievers you got on your shelf.

Steve Holm!

Thus endeth the pop culture references for today's call ups.

John Bowker and Nate Schierholtz will probably get the call tomorrow, and maybe we'll also see Clay Timpner, Brian Horwitz, Travis Denker, Eliezer Alfonzo, Geno Espineli, and others.

The San Francisco Giants made their September Call ups according to Rob Dibble on XM radio. They are as Following:

Catcher Steve Holm
Infielder Scott McClain aka Crash Davis 2008. (will he get any Playing Time?)
Outfielder Nate Schierholtz
Outfielder John Bowker
Outfielder Clay Timper
Right Handed Pitcher Brad Hennessey
Left Handed Pitcher Geno Espeneli
Left Handed Pitcher Steve Hammond

To make room on the 40 man the San Francisco Giants designated for assignment Catcher Guillermo Rodriguez and Catcher Eliezer Alfonso.

STEVE HAMMOND!

It doesn’t really work the same way…

Farewell, Ray. We'll miss your smile and your sugar. Welcome, Steve Hammond "Eggs". Throw strikes.

Was Hammond already on the 40 man roster? It seems weird to put him on there at this point when he really wasn’t very good in AAA.

Then again GROD and Eliezer suck, so.

Wow

How many outfielders do we need again? And how many of them can play CF?

Clay Timpner?

Whilst i don’t have anything against him, i’m not sure what he’s done to warrant a September call up given his OPS of 624! And surely Denker is deserving of a call up?

The pointlessness is staggering.

Okay, dumping GRod is no great loss, but bringing in McClain achieves…what exactly? Other than possibly taking away ABs from Ishikawa, Bowker and/or Sandoval? Are they counting on a power boost from him that will net us an upset 3rd place finish?

Like Barry Zito, I'm mildly half-OK.

Give him a chance to hit his first ML homer?

Whilst i’m not opposed to him getting a handful of at-bats, it does seem stupid for a non-contending team to call up a 36 year old 1B over a 27 year old one when they both put up similar numbers (OPS of 942 against OPS of 915)

False

It’s a respect thing. He was quoted as saying the reason he stayed with Fresno is b/c the Giants gave him a September call-up last year.

He’s earned it, frankly.

Tentatively adopting Dan Ortmeier. And Boom Goes the Dynamite.

Okay, that makes a certain amount of sense.

It sounds like McClain is pretty popular in Fresno, and if a callup helps bring him back for another season there, that could help relations between Grizzly management and the big club.

Like Barry Zito, I'm mildly half-OK.

Yah, thats how I read it too

If I came across as harsh, my humblest. I don’t want to be at work after the long wknd.

Tentatively adopting Dan Ortmeier. And Boom Goes the Dynamite.
