Brian Giles-Loser
They are reporting that Brian Giles has vetoed a trade to the Red Sox. Why?? He's 37 years old, and this could be his last chance to win a World's Championship. He'd rather play out the season for a dreadful team than win a World Series? What a loser. I know he's from San Diego, but he could easily re-sign with them after the season if they still want him, yet he chooses to play out the string with a bad team. God forbid he do the Padres a favor and give them a chance to look at some kid over the last six weeks of the season after he signed a big contract with them and "mysteriously" lost all his power. Why not help the Padres get better by getting a talented kid or two from the Red Sox system?? Then again, there's accountability in Boston and they expect you to produce for them over there rather than laid back San Diego, where they only boo Barry Bonds. I just watched the series with the Mets, and everytime he came up in a clutch situation he failed. His career post season batting average?? .208. No wonder he vetoed the trade. Play in obscurity rather than expose yourself in the bright lights of the post season, you piece of crap who only hits the Giants!!

Brian Giles is orange.
Also, here’s a picture of him kissing Mark Sweeney on the cheek. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Judging by interviews and articles written about him (and his brother), that’s probably the tamest thing he’s done.

I trust my male friends who kiss, date, and screw other men. I do not, however, trust anyone who removes all their own body hair.
Just something to think about.

Who showers CLOTHED???
Sure, the “with their brother”part is obviously odd…
Also, here’s a couple other brothers who are known to shower together.

Don’t worry, these two are secondary characters. The main characters are four of the most depraved human beings ever. And Danny DeVito. His best role since… Ever.

well
to be honest… if you wear slider shorts with a cup and no jockstrap the top part of the cup is exposed and really grabby. Therefore, it helps to “shave the taint” so you dont pull anything. I won’t go into detail of how i know that, but it’s something to think about and then stab yourself afterwards.

Not that there’s no chance that Brian Giles did steroids, but I think a lot of his power loss can be traced to Petco Park and just general aging.
And I respect him more for blocking a trade to the Red Sox, fuck the Red Sox.

we want SD to win as many games a possible because there is still a small chance it could affect what pick we get
we want the better of Giles or young call-up to play

Brian Giles'
2006-2008: 107, 109, 124. He plays Ok to good D.
The “big” contract was for $30M /3.
In 2006 and 2007, he was average to slightly above average offensively for a corner OF. In 2008, comfortably above average.
$30M / 3 is pretty much what an average player gets paid.
He was coming off a 128 OPS and a 146 OPS+ season, in 2004 and 205, when he signed that “big” contract. He took a contract that paid him like an average player, when he was coming off seasons when he was well above average.
He doesn’t owe the Padres anything.

on his defense/in his defense
A) rfloh, I’ve read in some metrics Brian Giles is a top 5 Outfielder defensively. What are you using to rate his D?
B) Playing time. Where would he play on the Red Sox??? Can’t blame the guy for wanting to play on a loser rather than sit on a winner.
C) Let’s be honest, the Red Sox were doing this to block the Ray’s from possibly acquiring him. They say otherwise, but that’s what I believe. If not, it means Papi is hurt much more than they’re letting on

I probably was too conservative on his D
He rates very well this year, yes top 5, by both zone rating and RZR. In 2007, he was average, by both zone rating and RZR. 2006, UZR had him as great.

FWIW, Chris Dial just released his Offense + Defense numbers and I think Giles rated pretty high as a defender. He’s a pretty damn good player.
by xanthan on Aug 8, 2008 2:59 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, I know of Dial's rankings
Dial uses zone rating (ZR), and converts it into runs above average. Like I said, top 5 in ZR and RZR this year.
In 2007, he was average, around 0 runs above average, by both.

Yes. And since many so people in other walks of life sacrifice salary and/or career advancement to live (and/or stay) in San Diego, why should Giles be any different? Other than maybe the Hawaiian islands, it’s a lifestyle you don’t find anywhere else.
Growing up on the beaches of La Jolla, I had to be dragged kicking and screaming (by the first wife) to come to the Bay Area 15 years ago. I lgrew to love it here, but never would have left if I’d been a multi-mliionaire like Giles. Furthermore, I don’t think I would have left SD for Boston at any price.

He would be leaving for six weeks, plus whatever happens in the offseason. You guys make it sound if he goes to the Red Sox he’s trapped there for life. He probably wants to sign back with the Padres after this season is over, and doing them a favor by agreeing to a trade would probably help his chances of them bringing him back. This is an excellent opportunity for an aging player to win himself a ring before he retires. It’s obvious that he doesn’t place much importance on winning a World Series, and that’s why he’s a loser. Ray Durham didn’t want to go either, but he knew the Giants wanted to look at the young guys, and he wanted a chance at a ring. That’s why Ray Durham is a real man, and Brian Giles is a pussy.

Hmmmmmmmmm. You’re calling him a pussy??? I want to know what about your life doesn’t make you a pussy then! So he wants to continue making millions of dollars, avoid the most obnoxious fans in the world, play every day in a contract year, and continue to live in the paradise known as San Diego pulling the finest wool in the United States.
You and I must have very different definitions of a ‘pussy’ man. More power to you if you would really prefer to ride the bench, put up with a bunch of obnoxious fans that talk funny, and play in a park smaller than a softball field in Left. OR, you could surf most mornings, play ball for $10,000,000 a year, and live in paradise filled with hot vag all the time.
Pussy? I think not!!! You should really reconsider the term you used. We would all be grateful to be in his shoes, with the career decisions he has, and I for one would definitely not refer to him as a “pussy.” Lucky??? Yes. I concur
