My heart broke reading that.
"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

Good link, I love the Giant picture of Fred with his bad-ass shades. Sad story.

Never had heard about this before. Sad story, makes me love Fred even more to know that he’s been able to overcome such a tragic event.

Wow, it is kind of surreal to see Fred Lewis’ face taking up 75% of ESPN’s MLB page.

What an intense story
I loved Fred Lewis before, now I love his family and friends who have supported him and helped him work his way through this tragedy. What a fine group of people.
Interesting quote in the middle:
Scyvonda is Nerfretti’s mother, though she goes by “Miss Peaches” or just “Peaches.” When she says her daughter’s name, it sounds like “Freddy,” which is also what people call Fred Lewis.
Anyone remember earlier this season that Fred asked someone (Amy G?) not to call him “Freddy”? Maybe that’s why…

I thought the same thing.

One thing this made me think of: Many people have cited the football playing as a reason for fred to be slow developing. I wonder if maybe he wasn’t focused on baseball because of the accident for his last year in college. Just a thought.
Also, I was interested to see Winn’s quote, about how he doesnt know how to describe Fred. With the shades and everything, you might not expect him to be so quiet.

Fred fan for life, right here
I don’t care what team he’s on, although I hope he stays a Giant. I never knew this story, and it really raises the bar on what he’s accomplished.

It’s not easy for a story to get me to cry at 7 in the morning, but that one did. I have so much respect for Fred Lewis at this moment, and while he was already one of my favorite Giants, I am now a fan for life. wow, just wow.

+1
To just about everything in this thread. I’d kinda always thought he was too cool for school (although he’s always been one of my favorites since he was called up) but this definitely changes that viewpoint. I’d love to see him remain a Giant his whole career.
