Sergio Romo Designated for Assignment

According to Andrew Baggarly here, the Giants designated Sergio Romo for assignment by accident. Or something. I'm sure this will all get straightened out, but in the meantime it's perfectly acceptable to jump to conclusions and start freaking out.

Next up: Sabean forgets to breathe, passes out.

No, my Crazy Crab bobblehead is not for sale.

See you guys later, I’m gonna go drive my car off the overpass.

They shouldn’t have been fucking sending him down in the first place. Fuck.

WTF. So he talked to his family when they were wearing Dodgers gear at Dodgers stadium last week – that’s no excuse to just cut the kid!

Wait… that’s not what it going on? * bangs head against table repeatedly *

Proud new parent of Mr. Buster Posey... you know, if he signs and stuff.

by GiantsFanInExile on Aug 6, 2008 11:02 AM PDT   0 recs

I'm guessing this will work itself out to a reasonable conclusion

but if not… Jesus Christ what a ridiculous fuck up

by FluLikeSymptoms on Aug 6, 2008 11:03 AM PDT   0 recs

yep

too early to go driving off embankments…. yet.

Billy Hayes: His job is better than yours.

by delorean on Aug 6, 2008 11:04 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Even if it works itself out, and I hope it does, this is inexcusable.

I’ve said this before, but what the FUCK does Sabean (or Bochy, for that matter) have to do to get fired, anyway!?

by jcb9 on Aug 6, 2008 11:04 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Hmm, thinking….Sabean has been GM since 1997. Bob Quinn, GM from 1993-1997, retired at the end of his run. Felipe Alou’s contract was allowed to expire – same with Dusty Baker. I think that was the case with Roger Craig, too.

Perhaps the Giants organization just doesn’t believe in firing managers or GMs. Accidentally DFAing good young relievers, yes. Firing inept morons, no.

by jcb9 on Aug 6, 2008 11:06 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Er, Quinn was GM from 1993-1996, I meant.

by jcb9 on Aug 6, 2008 11:09 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

they really should have fired Dusty Baker right after the World Series, simply not being able to agree to a new contract was such a pussy move!

by FluLikeSymptoms on Aug 6, 2008 11:11 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Is this a joke?

by xanthan on Aug 6, 2008 11:04 AM PDT   0 recs

The Giants- Yes... This post- No

which is a sad sad fact

Giants! Giants! HELP US GOD!

by j14 on Aug 6, 2008 11:05 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I will laugh (read: sob) if the Giants lose Romo because they don’t understand how the rules work and because they wanted to call up 40-year-old Yabu.

by xanthan on Aug 6, 2008 11:06 AM PDT   0 recs

But they HAD to get rid of Romo! He had ONE BAD OUTING OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!

Makes sense to me...

It was the same rationale for getting rid of that epic choker Joe Nathan

That's all I can stands, I can't stands no more!

by tobias on Aug 6, 2008 11:29 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

No

That actually had some basis in at least partially rational thought, and did not demonstrate a complete lack of understanding of the rules.

Perhaps Sabean has mad cow disease, and his brain has turned to swiss cheese?

by superk1ng on Aug 6, 2008 11:32 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

They sent down Matos too (and called up Sadler), so like… I don’t even know. There was absolutely ZERO reason to be sending Romo down. This is absolutely inexcusable, especially if we lose him.

Quick! On the roster, who’s above and / or below Romo’s name?!

by Merope on Aug 6, 2008 11:07 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Only the Giants could try to DFA Dave Roberts and completely fuck it up.

No, my Crazy Crab bobblehead is not for sale.

Sabean’s only 11.5 games out, so he is going to go get some vets to contend this year. This is the last straw. If this comes to fruition, Sabes-out- NOW!

by Big Daddy J on Aug 6, 2008 11:06 AM PDT   0 recs

next thing you know Lincecum will be dfa’d. I was for sure going to watch todays game as I dont get to see a lot of games, but wtf. ill still watch to see timmy

by Big Daddy J on Aug 6, 2008 11:11 AM PDT   0 recs

update from baggarly:
I’m told that Romo was still on revocable trade waivers when the Giants optioned him, which is not allowed. Therefore, he was designated for assignment. I’m told that trade waivers supercede in this case…so it’s a bit tangled. Will the Giants lose Romo, an arm they value, for nothing? I’ll find out.

WTF

I rate Romo’s arm having more value than Sadler, Yabu, Matos, etc. I just know he’ll get better with more outtings,

I was really pulling for Sergio. What a waste of talent.
