Oh..
So that’s why this thread is dead. I don’t know what anyone is complaining about. At least it’s on TV.

Where the hell is everybody? I know it’s early but I thought most people had cats. [Mine never lets me sleep in.]
Mine slept on my head last night. There was not much rest for me either.

Good to hear that mine wasn’t the only one that did that. When he weighed 20 lbs, it was a bit awkward.

No cat anymore, but a 3 year old. Kinda like the same thing. Been up since 6:48.

Not to be speed-obsessed, but did anyone notice Cain’s velocity is 88? I know guns are inconsistent, but 88?
Boo for 28 pich innings.

I’m gonna say it. Cain kinda sucked today. And not in the regular good way.
Too many walks by the Giants.
And the bullpen sucks donkey balls. Taschner has no business being on the mound right now. Walking three guys today? Giving up tons of hits over the last few weeks? I’d rather see /gasp/ Vinnie Chulk giving them up at this point, just so I have somebody different to hate.
Gah!
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
In the beginning of the season, the bullpen (with one or two glaring exceptions) was a joy to watch and a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy season. Now if a starting pitcher can’t get to Wilson in the 9th, you may as well turn off the game and kiss it goodbye. Rather discouraging, overall.
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
Walker deciding to suck didn’t help things either. It’s hard to remember, but he was really good at the beginning of the year.
Trent Kline: Decentish. Also, my website is called ChatterBalks Dot Com. It's not being updated right now. Hope for more at your own risk.
I’m sure this comes up quite often, but do we suppose it’s possible that there’s any validity to the theory that our pitching coach isn’t doing as well as he should?
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
It’s hard to come up with a real argument for that. Seems kind of biased to blame the crappy pitchers on Rags, while claiming that the good ones are just naturally good.
Also, is anyone on the staff really disappointing? Tyler Walker has never had an ERA below 4.00. Taschner isn’t great, but he’s never been better.
Other that Zito, I can’t think of too many guys in which I think, “man, that guy really needs to be pitching better than he is”.
My only evidence at this point is anecdotal, but it seems that over the years, we’ve had pitchers that have had all sorts of dominance or promise in the minors, only to fade rapidly in SF. I don’t credit Rags for Lincecum – I think that kind of natural talent would succeed regardless of who is coaching him. But for “regular” guys, when do we start looking at the effect he may have? It’s not just this year, either. Look at pitchers who have sucked for the Giants that go on to succeed elsewhere (not counting the guys who are just truly awful or mediocre, who stay the same). I just gotta wonder.
Again, I have no empirical evidence on this.
Even if Walker’s ERA isn’t 21.00, he gives up hits and runs at the worst possible times. Who cares if he comes into a game when the Giants are down by 4 and doesn’t give up a run. And his ability to hold inherited runners (not reflected in his ERA) seems awful.
Taschner either needs to be pitching better or not at all. Walker is inconsistent at the worst possible times. Correia is on the border of bad. Sanchez is having some sort of problem over the last month and a half, and needs to be pitching much better than he is. I could go on.
So yeah, lots of guys on the staff are disappointing.
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
I disagree. Taschner’s ERA in the majors and minors are almost identical. Walker’s minor league numbers are pretty good, but he stinks just about as much as he did with other Major League organizations. Expectations for either of these guys should have been low consider the track record.
Rags’ work with Correia was excellent last year, which makes me think that Correia’s problem is that he is a very good reliever, and only a mediocre starter.
This may all be true. Like I said, I’m going off my gut. I just gotta wonder why so many pitchers have problems when they hit the big club. Any other theories are welcome.
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
Cy Lincecum has a nice ring to it.
