BP on Giants Suspects
Pretty sure you need a subscription for this one, but Jay Jaffe knocks the upper levels of the Giants system. I know, we do that all the time, but he also tries to ruin the Pablo-Ishi high...

Ishikawa, fine, I can agree with that but what the hell is the point of dogging on Pablo’s track record? He just turned 22! He’s been age-appropriate all year. Yes, it’s a larger sample size before this year, but his statistics were never exactly bad, when taking age and position (once he moved to catcher) into account.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
I mean, what, the fact that everyone was ignoring Pablo before this year means that he’s not worth a shit? How does that even make sense? There’s no such thing as prospects who come out of nowhere to become contributors or sleeper prospects anymore? Everyone must perform immediately or they will never amount to anything?

Well, that’s not really the same thing, he did perform in the minors pretty much immediately.

good point
Jaffe seems to slip between pointing to stats (and larger sample sizes) and alluding to prospect rankings to make his argument. Plus, I seem to remember BP’s own Kevin Goldstein giving Pablo accolades before I’d even heard of him.
Uhh, that’s really not what he said.
True, both may have turned a corner in their developments this year, particularly Sandoval, whose hitting has drawn positive comments that have been somewhat offset by those regarding his expanding waistline. While the early returns are promising—Sandoval’s put up a .328 EqA in his first 42 PA with the Giants, Ishikawa’s at .281 through 35—their track records offer a reality check, and it’s far too soon to claim the duo as above-average performers.
Seems pretty reasonable to me.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.
Yeah, but isn’t Jaffe backing up the claim that whoever Sabean calls up are going to be “sub-replacement level” players when he goes on to quote that their EqA’s (SSS, but above average scores) but then states that it’s too soon to call them above-average?
No one made the claim that they would be above-average but that the Giants had some decent prospects, and definitely ones that would be better than “sub-replacement level”.
Or Am I reading it wrong?
Michael Ambort: Dude hits TATERS.

To clarify
His comments on the August 15 Hit List were moronic, and reveled some embarrassing lack of knowledge. What he wrote this time seemed pretty reasonable to me.

Well, yeah, he adds that on, but he’s peddling some pretty epic backs from where he before said they were going to be sub-replacement.

I want to piss on you!
Not on you, chilibean, nor on anyone, just completing the song lyric.
But yeah that was the funniest thing on Chappelle’s Show ever. The uncensored clip of that has me dying every time I watch it.

The response was classic.
R Kelly: “How you gon’make a song about pissin on people?”
Chapelle: “How you gon’make a song about pissin on people!”
