Open Gameday Thread, 8/27
Colorado Rockies @ San Francisco Giants
If the universe were ever to send us some sort of karmic invoice for this game, it would happen tonight.
When one pitcher's WHIP is right around the other pitcher's ERA, that's an old-timey mismatch. I'm just not sure if the Giants will score just one run, or if they won't score at all.

Why Bochy continues to think Winn is a middle of the lineup hitter is beyond me.

This has to be the biggest pitching mismatch on paper of the season, which of course means the Rockies win 3-0.

How exactly is a home run an unearned run!?
I’ve mentioned it before, but I attended the 1-0 18 inning loss in 2001. Epic.

Not only did I stay the whole time, I missed the last BART train of the night and had to kill about 4 hours afterwards before I could go home to the East Bay.
I don’t leave games early. And it was actually a fairly exciting game. Lots of scoring chances, but good pitching and missed opportunities kept the shutout going.

OH WAIT DUH
If there’s an error that prevents an inning from ending, any runs after that are unearned. So then the homer would be unearned.

actually, if a fielder dropped a pop up in foul territory and then the batter went on to homer, it would be an unearned run, I think.

PRE-GAME COMMENT STARTER
Favorite Overlooked/Underappreciated Movies. A couple of mine:
SHAKES THE CLOWN
If the tagline doesn’t grab you (“Loved by children. Desired by women. Adored by bartenders everywhere.”), then this pull-quote from the Boston Globe review should: “The ‘Citizen Cane’ of alcoholic clown movies.”
THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI ACROSS THE 8TH DIMENSION
The logline really says it all: “Adventurer/surgeon/rock musician Buckaroo Banzai and his band of men, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, take on evil alien invaders from the 8th dimension.”

lol: 'citizen kane of alcoholic clown movies'
my two:
Cannibal: The Musical
The South Park boys get their start in a horrendously low-budget, terribly-acted musical homage to the only cannibalism case successfully prosecuted in the US. Bonus points for being distributed by a studio that specializes in B-movie horror flicks that are really softcore pornos.
Brazil
Probably not as overlooked in this space, this being the internets and all, but just a trip. Terry Gilliam does some brilliant work and Robert de Niro is fantastic.

Did You Know?
The main character from CANNIBAL was not only a real person, and a real cannibal, but the dining hall at the University of Colorado is named after him.

It was very uneven, but I thought there were a few really, really funny scenes.
In other news, I’m shocked nobody’s made fun of me yet for my spelling of ‘Citizen Kane’ yet. Guess it’s ‘cuz Howie’s not around.
