According to ESPN.com’s standings, our chance of making the playoffs has DOUBLED – to 0.2%! HERE WE GO!!!

Forget ROckies/Giants
There’s Red Sox/Yankees going on tonight! Last game ever in Yankee Stadium!!! A sure-fire five-star classic! My only hope is that I can catch some of the highlights on ESPN, if they even show them. Like manna from heaven!
I’m just sad that Bud Selig hasn’t found a way to allow the Yankees to play the Red Sox in the World Series – every year!

If you check game logs..
According to his pattern, Pablo is due for a 2 hit night.

man this looks it’s going to be a riveting game of baseball
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
Is anybody else scared..
we don’t get a top 10 pick and Sab’s pisses it away on a type A?
proud father of the newly acquired Brandon Crawford..
Seems pretty unlikely. We’re currently at #8, and the next three teams ahead of us are the A’s (2 games) Rockies (3 games), and the Orioles (4 games). We could pass any of those teams, but to pass all three and stay ahead of all the teams that are barely behind us seems like a stretch.

Yeah, you missed the mayor of Fairbanks, some woman who lost her job in a factory, a Representative from NYC who I hadn’t heard of despite living in NYC for three years, and some woman who got jobbed by the Supreme Court on an equal pay case. Riveting stuff!
Mark Warner now, though.

If Sandoval

He had over 450 plate appearances, so he must’ve played fairly regularly against lefties.

That’s only at Fresno, it appears.

Indeed. But he’s not going to improve if he’s never playing against them. He may never improve anyway, but I’d rather give him the shot, as we eventually did with Lewis. Especially if it’s a shitty lefty (see above).

Go, Matt Palmer.
I watched the first disc of Ken Burns Baseball (I’ve never seen it) today after work. Needless to say, I’m pumped for some baseball even if it is the Giants.
That documentary has some real flaws (east coast bias, ho! They spend like 15 minutes on how it was a tragedy that the Dodgers and Giants left NYC, and then never mention the Giants again, except for like 15 seconds), but it’s well worth seeing.

I don’t think Rohlinger is all that good, but he really shouldn’t be sitting on the bench this much. Fresno or the starting lineup. Pick one, Giants.

As I explained below, the 2005 season was pretty important to me
That year, I remember going to a game in May with my BFF. We went to the beach after the game, freezing cold and windy as usual. I was having one of my “what does it all mean anyway” periods and I’d just come to terms with the fact that I wouldn’t have the means to attend an out of state school. So I was standing on the beach, watching the tide roll in, and asking myself why in the blue fuck I even wanted to leave in the first place.

3 reasons for Rohlinger not playing a lot. 1. They may be trying to showcase Rich Aurilia 2. I know they are working on trying to shorten up his swing. 3. Pablo is so flippen hot right now. The way I took it from my time in SF this past weekend is that Rohlinger will see more playing time soon.

Ishikawa's splits
I looked ’em up for his full minor-league career:
vs RHP: 868 OPS, 1149 AB
vs LHP: 776 OPS, 386 AB
That’s a platoon split, but nothing horrible — about what Lewis featured, 100 OPS points. To my mind, either Ishikawa is finally fulfilling his promise and is now a real hitter, or not. Lefties, righties — throw him in there.
by year
971 / 902 in 2005
606 / 746 in 2006
846 / 715 in 2007
641 / 1068 in 2008
To my mind, it’s as valid to say there is no platoon split if you subtract 2008. Once you start slicing up into these 100-AB chunks (vs LHP), the numbers become pretty meaningless. Sample size matters.
food for thought
I was under the impression that his platoon was quite extreme
you can't block the Bocock
it is in 2008
..in all of 49 AB against LHP. Anything can happen in 100 AB. 50 AB is a rounding error.

and while we're playing with minor-league splits...
Guess which current Giants farmhand features this history:
vs RHP: 850 OPS, 1146 AB
vs LHP: 691 OPS, 461 AB
dingdingdingding
..a reverse split for his minor-league career. And I don’t believe for one second it means he can’t hit lefties.
I’d guess that using MiLB splits for players in the majors isn’t the best because it excludes any progress that they might have made in becoming better players. Pablo obviously took a step forward this year.
and yet, still has a reverse split
..though only 130 AB vs LHP
Nate has a normal split
vs RHP: 886 OPS, 1211 AB
vs LHP: 794 OPS, 467 AB
That pitch was near his eyes!
