Wait, how is it Bochy's fault they didn't score?
Yeah, it’s stupid to take out Ishikawa for various reasons, but it doesn’t really decrease their chances at scoring. I blame the Giants’ offense usual ineptitude.
by kingofthacove on Aug 24, 2008 2:43 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Because if they've left Ishi in then Aurilia presumably would have pinch-hit for Correia.

The Giants’ offense usual ineptitude is kind of a constant that can't really be helped at this point.
But Bochy’s slavish, slobbering devotion to lefty-righty mojo…
~ Tells TI no one expects him to hit lefties (how has he done vs. lefties in the minors? are there any records on that?)
~ Tells TI that Bochy has no confidence in him
~ Takes away an opportunity for TI to gain a little more experience vs. lefties
~ Takes away a better opportunity to use Aurilia as a PH for Correia, or later in the game
~ Begs the question: Just because TI bats LEFTY and Aurilia bats RIGHTY, is that the ***ONLY*** consideration for determining who should have batted in that situation????//7

in all fairness..
..over his full minor-league career, Ishikawa has a 100-point OPS advantage against RHP. That’s not huge; in line with Fred Lewis’s track record, if memory serves.

Again, I don’t hate the move if it is done in the 8th or 9th inning, but by taking Travis out early, we’ve now had to watch Aurilia hit against righties several times afterwards
by rotorueter on Aug 24, 2008 3:52 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
in all fairness...
Rich Aurilia sucks
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
by jponry on Aug 24, 2008 3:52 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
well, yeah..
..but Ishikawa sucked as recently as last year. It’s not 100% insane to bring Aurilia in to pinch hit. Just maybe 75%, given what inning it is, how poorly Aurilia has been hitting, and how adequate Ishikawa’s bat looks. But it’s not like Mr. Burns taking out Strawberry for Simpson.

Ishikawa does have a .760ish OPS against lefties this year (SSS, I know), which would be one of the better overall OPSes on the team.

I like Emmanuel Burriss
He draws 2-out walks for the San Francisco Giants, thus allowing Vizquel’s wasted-anyway at bat to be done with this inning.
Why couldn't McCovey have hit the ball just three feet higher??
