Billy Hayes: His job is better than yours.
no worries
If he sucks too bad, they’ll have him stop. It’s not like he’s more likely to be injured at 3rd than he would be catching.
The main concern is that this will give people more reason to suggest such future third basemen as Nate Schierholtz, Randy Winn, Travis Ishikawa, and Pat Burrell.
It could have the opposite effect. I can’t find the exact quote, but I remember Doug Mirabelli saying something to the effect of “one of the worst things that can happen to a marginally talented player is overexposure”.
If Pablo humiliates himself, then it may quiet those outlandish suggestions for other players to do something similar.
In defense to Doug, he was referring to a recent hot streak that was resulting in an increase in his playing time. It was a pretty humble statement.
hes still going deep!

Holy crap, the Cubs gave up 13 runs to the freaking Nationals today.
Even funnier: the Nationals still have fewer runs scored than the Giants.
Willie Harris hit his 11th and 12th HRs of the season
That means Willie F-ing Harris has hit as many HRs as anyone on the Giants. Pathetic.
Giants! Giants! HELP US GOD!
In other Cub news, Carlos Zambrano is losing his teeth
Carlos Zambrano broke a molar in half chewing gum during his appearance on Thursday.
Trainers came out to the mound after seeing him grimace in pain, and he proceeded to spit out half a tooth. “It’s the gum,” Zambrano said. “It has a lot of sugar, and I keep telling my daughter not to eat a lot of gum. I’m not a good example.” The injury won’t affect his next start.
Ouch

Imagine if we did get Strasburg, though. We could have a rotation of Lincecum, Strasburg, Cain, Bumgarner, and Alderson. Cain really would be a third starter!!! at best!!!
if we got strasburg, we would hear nothing but TRADE CAIN threads all the time. not to different from now i suppose

Well, at that point it would make sense. Let’s assume we are talking 2010 for that kind rotation. Cain would be our most expensive, and our second oldest starter. Considering that Jonathan Sanchez and Henry Sosa aren’t even included in the scenario above, I think we would have the depth at that point.
nationals could have had crow and strasburg

I’d actually take FP over JT. JT does have some potential, but he sometimes seems like he’s just sitting all by himself, and not really following his fellow broadcaster. Plus, he has this annoying long pauses while he thinks up words to use.
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
Easy to tell the difference:
FP: “When I was a player. . .” “When I was a coach. . .” “When I played in [city]. . .”
JT: “uh . . . . uh” “[pause]”
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
It’s like Wrestlemania 2, when they decided to have thee arenas and three commentary teams, so you ended up with combinations like Vince McMahon and Susan St. James, and Jesse Ventura, Lord Alfred Hayes, and Elvira.

not sure what level he's at
but according to Grant’s minor league progression numbers (too lazy to find the post, about a recent draftee) this should equate to about .700 at AA, .600 at AAA, and .500 in the majors. Not bad.

Interesting thing on Baek
Padres pitcher Baek was Korean but he changed his nationality to United States. Because when he came to United Stated, he was being wrong against KBO (Korea Baseball Organization)’s rule, then dismissal from membership.
Dismissal from KBO, in South Korea, means you have no chance to play in Olympic or WBC things. If that, you have no chance to immunity from military service in South Korea.
So, if he didn’t want to change his nationality, he should came back to South Korea and being military service for 2 years but he didn’t. So… He made decision.
That’s why some Korea baseball fans don’t like him.
Giants the never sunset.

Orange chicken’s good stuff, even if fake.
We should have some for Chinese New Year next year, actually! I don’t know how we’ve managed never to make orange chicken for New Year. Must put it on the list.
My future roommates hosted me for Christmas this past year. My BFF’s wife is Jewish/Chinese so she doesn’t do Xmas. She made the whole Chinese feast for us: orange chicken (from scratch), real fried rice, potstickers, the whole nine yards. BEST
We’re also kicking around ideas for Seder in the spring. I cannot wait for that.

I don’t agree. Obama doesn’t win if the focus is on international affairs, so he shouldn’t draw attention to it.
As a philosophy, I don’t believe in ticket balance—-it always ends up feeling forced. I think he should have picked another hopey mcchangealot as his VP.
I’m all right with Biden. Basically everyone in both parties is a horse’s ass. Biden’s okay, I guess.

I think Kaine would have been a better pick. Executive experience, part of the outsider/change message, rising star, and being from Virginia didnt hurt.
But whatever, you’re right, Biden was no one’s least favorite pick, and boring, uninspiring consensus is good for this sort of decision.
Kaine would’ve been okay. Sebelius too. Like I said, I preferred Richardson, but talk of him faded a while ago.

I discussed this with Marcello the other day at the San Jose game:
Lincecum not winning the Cy Young will likely keep his arbitration price lower for the next few years.
I know that’s a cynical way to look at it, and I am not rooting against him, but it is something to keep in mind as a silver lining.

It would be nice to see some reward for him pitching for such a “normally” weak offense.
