Winn Value...
Interesting to see someone prove that Winn has more value than Manny....perhaps we underestimate him?

As much as...
I want Nate up and getting MLB AB’s, we had better get value for Winn if we trade him.

I think
We underestimate him because our team is so bereft of offense.
As such, we value it very highly.

I just wish there was more actual math there. A lot of it seems to be stuff like “Ok, let’s give him an extra +1 win share for [random reason]”
Now, these allocations probably aren’t arbitrary, but the way that’s written I can’t really tell that they aren’t.
It also troubles me that we go from there to “Based on this underfleshed argument, we could say that he’s comparable to Ramirez, Burrel, etc. without analyzing any of those players.”
Not saying it might not be a valid argument, (though it is really hard to swallow) but I would have liked to have seen it, you know, actually argued (which would have helped me swallow it).

This
He leaves a lot of the calculations out for brevity, but they are covered in the comments.

Basically 10 runs = 1 win, so if Randy is a +1 win in RF that mean’s he is saving 10 runs per season at that defensive position. His bat is 10 runs above average = another +1 win. Then you just do some adjustments for position and league.

FWIF
I made this claim to a dodger co-worker today, and he looked at me like I just told him the world was flat.
I sent him the article, see what he says…

You work with a dodger?
even the mlb minimum seems like enough to avoid a second job.

I’ve long believed this but also suspected that I was a little crazy for believing it.
