Open Gameday Thread: Revenge
Matt Palmer looks pretty good so far. Other than the hits, walks, and number of pitches thrown.

all he needed was a grounder up the middle. especially with two rookies involved, don’t call the squeeze, just hope your pitcher can make solid contact.

Eugeniooooooo!!!!
by FairweatherFan on Aug 21, 2008 2:14 PM PDT up reply actions
To the stat cave, nerds!
Opposing pitchers OBP is .282 against the Giants, highest in the NL. 4 American League pitching staffs are above us (lower opposing pitchers OBP). I found this by the split of #9 hitters against team staffs. There’s the occasional pitcher hitting 8tjh, but not many.
No, my Crazy Crab bobblehead is not for sale.
You know, that brings up a thought I had the other day. Imagine how overrun with retards this page would become when/if the Giants get good again.

that describes a lot of players on the Giants. It’s a pick your poison thing.
Proud adopted parent of future big league slugger Thomas Neal
by nostocksjustbonds on Aug 21, 2008 2:22 PM PDT up reply actions
Well, I think it describes Ochoa a lot more than others
Ochoa walks 3.9% of the time. That is astronomically low.
Given, he’s only had 85 PA’s, but that isnt an impossibly small sample.
The guy just doesn’t walk, and can’t hit – as such he makes a pretty lousy #2 hitter.
Id rather even see velez in the 2 hole as at least he can hit a little.
Eugeniooooooo!!!!
by FairweatherFan on Aug 21, 2008 2:24 PM PDT up reply actions
I must say I was impressed in Velez’s last AB. He waited on that breaking ball pretty well and took it the other way.

by nostocksjustbonds on Aug 21, 2008 2:28 PM PDT up reply actions
I don’t have a problem with that. What’s funny is Barry would hold the bat against his shoulder and just stand there when he was taking all the way. But Krukow never said anything then.
Yeah well, some people have a little more credability
Velez’s recent improvement gives me hope that he might have a chance. He’s out OPSing Burriss since his return from AAA
Eugeniooooooo!!!!
by FairweatherFan on Aug 21, 2008 2:34 PM PDT up reply actions
Actually not
Going into today:
Velez (since recall): .250/.316/.308, OPS .624
Ochoa (season) .247/.295/.342, OPS .637
And he’s only doing slightly better than Burriss:
Burriss (season): .257/.320/.294, OPS .614
Like Barry Zito, I'm mildly half-OK.
Since he came back
Not for the season. Ochoa and Buriss both struggling since July.
