Open 11th Inning USA vs. Japan Thread

Japan and USA are tied 0-0 in the 11th

USA just got a base hit that scored a run because of the goofy start the inning with two men on rule.

Now Nate just singled to score another run.  US up 2-0 in the top of the 11th.  Japan will get their turn to start the bottom of the 11th with men on 1st and 2nd

It's on MSNBC.  anyone else watching this?

man this the stupidest rule in the history of sports

Wait they put runners on base in extra innings? What in the blue fuck?

"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

10th inning is played normally, but after that, the teams start the inning with runners on 1st and 2nd. They can choose what part of the lineup to use but have to use it in that order.

Farewell, Ray. We'll miss your smile and your sugar. Welcome, Steve Hammond "Eggs". Throw strikes.

wait..

they get to pick what part of the line up they want to use starting in the 11th?

Can they use the same part of the lineup in the 11th, 12th, 13th, etc?

There is an explanation that makes sense. It still doesn’t make it a good rule, or even an intelligent one, but at least it’s not completely without reason.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

Sorry, I forgot to give the explanation: It has to do with Olympic event scheduling, mostly.

Yeah, an 18 inning would screw everything up. Would the rule apply in the gold medal game?

Zooperstars, they quack me up!

ths is so fucking stupid I can’t even put down a rational thought. Why don’t they all just whip out their dicks and see who can piss the farthest? Seems to make as much sense as this bullshit.

I am not watching because I am at rat bastard work. >:o keep us jerks who have jobs up to date man!

well, the game happened several hours ago, so can just read about it on Baseball America if you are curious

With my membership to McCovey Chronicles I demand up to the minute information.

I suppose you require a LAUGH sign in bright lights flashing at you to get that I’m being silly.

I’m at work too so I can’t watch =(

But can someone explain this rule to me? Sounds absolutely stupid.

I can explain

It actually is absolutely stupid.

Hope that helped.

So what happens if they just keep scoring and tying the game?

"While conservatives tell you 'leave things alone and no one will lose,' and liberals tell you 'interfere a lot and no one will lose,' baseball says 'someone will lose.' Not only says it - but insists upon it! ... Democracy is lovely, but baseball's more mature." BVCE supports SF Dugout and Manny Burriss.

I would assume they’d play the 12th with two men on

      Zooperstars, they quack me up!

by Goofus on Aug 20, 2008 1:51 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

And if they continued to tie the game and so on and so on, then the rule would remain pointless as the game just keeps going.

      Stupid.

The theory is that you avoid endless zeros (like the previous 10 innings) by starting with men on

Yeah, but the tie is still a tie if it keeps going.
