McC Night at the Yard...with PHOTOS!

Another year, another successful meeting up of the Grantheads. This Tuesday night in August wasn't quite as memorable a game as last year's get-together, when some guy named Barry hit #756. On the other hand, it's not every day that the opposing pitcher is one Pablo Sandoval double away from throwing a controversial official scorer's decision one-hitter. Well, actually it is almost every day that the opposing pitcher shuts down the Giants offense.

But forget the 6-0 loss, the Manny Burriss dropped ball, or the John Baker cheering section that sailed in from Alameda. We had fun! A group of nice, funny, friendly McCoven gathered at Zeke's for drinks, talk and laughs. Then we headed to the ballpark and took our respective seats. Goofus even appeared on TV, apparently. I enjoyed seeing a bunch of the McCoven yet again, and meeting Baron, Jponry and others for the first time. It was a fun night.

Here are some pics.

btw, mayor of 311+ what kind of bike do you have?

by haverecords on Aug 20, 2008 3:19 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Sym 125cc scooter

Syms are Taiwanese, and they’re GREAT scoots. They never break; great quality; and in all city driving, I’m getting 55 mpg. I also get up to 65 mph on Fulton. It has a lot of pep.

by Mayor of 311 on Aug 20, 2008 7:47 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

55 mpg in the city is very nice. Plus, that 125 probably isn`t putting out much heat, which is very nice for city riding. Choosing a bike with something to the engine + wearing protective gear = a scooter rider that knows whats up. Only in SF do I ever really see that, honestly. Most scooter riders outside of the city seem to think that a smaller bike means you can forget the gear…

I know a few people looking for scoots, i`ll tell em to check out that make.

Thanks. And your friends will thank you for it.

If they are in SF, talk with SF Moto on 8th Street near Howard. All the mechanics I know LOVE the Sym. Way better machine than the Vespa, for example.

Best zinging jab of all of 2008 primaries

We talked about this in Goofus’s seats. It was Joe Biden’s comment in December or January. “Ever hear Giuliani talk? Every sentence is a noun, a verb, and 9/11.”

to be fair

didn’t want him to be President, but he did a great job as mayor of New York. People dwell on the little things and forget the big ones sometimes. Before he was mayor, you literally could not walk down the streets of the city without being afraid for your life.

Thanks to Grant for this site, and thanks to all the McCoven (and to Mrs. Delorean, who might or might not want that label!)who turned out last night. It was really great seeing all of you.

I always pronounced it as rhyming with brow, only with a g at the end. The thing is, at McCovey’s, I presumably heard someone pronounce it while introducing him, so you’d think I would’ve picked it up there.

Also it was fun to boo Giuliani. The Mayor of 311 could take him down any day if he hadn’t been off “getting a soda.” With some terrorists.

Classy move giving the foul ball to a kid. I caught a couple foul balls a few years ago, but since then, every ball that I have caught at the stadium (a couple batting practice homers and a strikeout ball thrown to me by the catcher) have gone to kids nearby. The people I am with are usually stunned that I would give a ball away like that, but I figure that it is the experience of catching the ball that I cherish, not the ball itself, whereas a kid may really appreciate having that ball in their hand.

Errata

In one of the pictures Goofus is not lurking and/or looming behind and/or next to Grant.

I demand correction of this shamelessly altered photo.

Hey, I WAS on tv. Right between Grant and the Mayor, blocked by Goofus, but in frame after the Ishikawa at-bat. Sweet.

Still-proud, adoptive mama of Notgardo Alfonzo, who's back from the 50-game purgatory. He promises never to do it again. I couldn't get him to promise to hit, though. We're working on that with bribes of M&Ms, kind of like potty training.

And, of course, you see who else is on tv . . .

Still haven’t heard from her, by the way.

The ones where everyone was naked? I don’t think they’re suitable for this site.

Hey I was told I would be compensated for those photos.

If howtheyscored’s stalking were combined with the look you’ve given in a couple of your pictures, I would already have a restraining order and/or a new alias.

Combined, we would be the ultimate in creepy.

I remember hearing that song for the first time as an 11-year-old. I’d heard all this stuff about Public Enemy, so I was excited to finally hear them. The song started…

“I got a letter from the government the other day…”

Yeah! Yeah!

“I opened and read it…it said the were suckers!”

WTF THIS DOESN"T RHYME!!!!!!!

I came around, but it was an acquired taste.

I like the Tricky cover of that song.
